Move Over Martha!

One thing I have always wanted to do was give my kids a great playroom!  When I was pregnant with my first, we kept the gender a surprise so our nursery was very neutral.  But the playroom, that was done before the baby was even born! I had the cutest little framed pictures on the wall, a great rug and I even added a tent. The baby would use it eventually, right?!

Fast forward two years and 100’s of toys later. Time for a facelift!! (Not me.. yet.. the playroom!). What do I do with all of these dress up clothes? And what about an art corner? I don’t think I have floor space for an art easel and I certainly don’t have room for another piece of furniture to hang my daughter’s cute little dresses.

Then I saw my vision. Have you ever seen on a cartoon when someone has a great idea or spots something they’re searching for and a glow surrounds the area, and the triumphant sound of angels sing “ahhhhhh!” Ok I’m totally exaggerating but I was happy this idea came to mind!

Exhibit 1.   Packed, cluttered, mess of a closet!  There was everything from Playdoh to my husband and my diplomas.  #packrats.

Can you look past all of that junk? I see tons of wasted space and so much potential! First, picture this, dress up clothes hanging, everything organized, maybe a little flower pot and a framed picture!

Here is what I did!

Step 1 – There was already a bar hanging under the middle shelve so that saved a step. I took a piece of fabric and draped from the back of the shelf down to the floor to hide the duct-work. I don’t know about you, but the Damask pattern gets me every time. I love it!

Step 2 – I hung a mirror I had laying in the basement on the inside of the door.

Step 3 – I put small battery operated tap lights under the shelf.

Step 4 – I added princess attire and finished it off with a frame and FAKE potted flower; and I emphasize fake because I am not teaching a lesson in gardening this year 😉IMG_3761

Step 5 – For the outside of the door, aka the Art Corner, I bought chalkboard paint from Home Depot for about $10 and a rod with the colored containers from Ikea for around $3 total.   I did about 3 or 4 coats of paint on the inside panels of the door.  Once the paint dried over night I rubbed a piece of chalk ALL over the painted surface.  If you don’t, your little ones first masterpiece will be permanent! And voila my art corner is done!closet

I couldn’t be happier with the results! What do you think?

I am a stay at home mom to my daughter Penny and son Grady who will be 2 in November. My husband and I were both born and raised in Norwalk, had the most magical wedding at the Maritime Aquarium, and currently reside in, wait for it, Norwalk!! When the kids are napping my “me time” is focused on my direct sales business, Younique. I love sharing make up with women, giving them confidence and making them feel beautiful! Being able to stay connected to adults outside of the normal day to day errands of running to Stew’s or finding a new playground to keep my children entertained is an added bonus too!
