Meet Margie: Traveling Home

0

Hi everyone, I’m Margie and I am very happy to join the Fairfield Country Moms Blog contributor team! I enjoy reading the posts and use this page as a resource when finding things to do around CT. The posts about mom life are my favorite, as it makes me feel that we are all in this together!

A bit about me…My husband and I have been married since 2005 and we have two kids, Branden (11) and Ema (9). I was born and raised in Miami, FL, and recently moved to Connecticut in 2018. I often get asked, “Why in the world would you want to move north, when everyone wants to go south?” Well, the answer is that an opportunity presented itself, and both my husband and I knew if we didn’t take it, we’d regret it later.

You see, we were both born in Miami, then stayed and went to college in Miami. As much as people love to visit Miami on vacation, the year-long heat, humidity, and constant traffic can take a toll on you. We both love to travel and have imagined ourselves living in so many different places, but never in a million years thought we would ever leave our home and family members. Then, my husband received a job offer in Fairfield, and we found ourselves in a very real situation regarding living somewhere else.

Margie Family

I have lived in Fairfield, CT for almost a year now, and while I am not thrilled about all of the taxes, I really do love it here! I have had so many firsts this year – walking the kids to school, not having a full-time job, experiencing the leaves change in Fall, shoveling snow from my driveway, having my kids play around the neighborhood, actually knowing and talking to my neighbors, driving two minutes to get groceries, worrying about heating oil costs, driving across a state line in an hour, smelling a skunk, having a mouse in my house, admiring the colors of Spring, and having guests sleep at my house. While I miss my family in Miami dearly, in some strange way, I feel it has brought us closer. I appreciate every Facetime with my parents, every train ride to see my sister in New York, and I look forward to family visits and flights back home.

I have been a teacher for 16 years, but since our family was making a giant leap, I decided to make a change professionally as well. Once I got our “new normal” figured out, I started a travel blog, which is something I have always wanted to do. DQ Family Travel is a place where I share our family’s travels, our trip itineraries, travel tips, and ways to save on vacations. Since my blog doesn’t bring home the big bucks, I have been freelance writing about travel, parenting, hiking, food, Disney, and anything else that catches my eye.

When I’m not behind my computer, I am on my phone shopping on Amazon or watching one of the many shows I am addicted to. I love to drink citrusy craft beer, mochas, and pinot noir from Oregon. Also, I love a good pizza! I am excited for the opportunity to join the Fairfield County Moms Blog team, and connecting with more moms in CT (because I don’t have many mom friends up here). Looking forward to sharing more with you.
