As a fairly new mom to Fairfield, Connecticut I am happy to join the Fairfield County Moms Blog team. I truly value being part of a “team,” and I also believe that teamwork is essential to a functioning family.
Before I became a stay-at-home mom in 2011, I worked in the hospitality industry at various hotels in New York City. My life was glamorous and exciting with the constant hustle and bustle of urban fast-paced work. The demanding hours, having to work weekends, and even holidays was overwhelming. But, little did I know, that this type of non-stop work would also prepare me for a new (unpaid) “career”: motherhood. Working in the hotel, you have to keep guests happy. This has become similar to my life as a mom to my kids.
My husband, Steven, and I met in college, and after we graduated we moved to New York City to secure gainful employment. After several years, we purchased an apartment in Westchester County, and time flew by. Our first daughter, Kyla, is now 7 years old and our second, Hailey, is 4 years old. We still didn’t feel like we found a “home,” and we were running out of space. We made the decision to explore many areas of Fairfield County during weekends, and eventually found our “right fit” in Fairfield.
Once I got settled into my new home, I made it a priority for my girls to get involved in various activities, which led to new friendships and teamwork. My older daughter is now a Girl Scout and has learned to work well with other girls in her scout group to earn badges for community service. This has also allowed me to bridge into meeting other moms.
My younger daughter enjoys ballet and is working with others towards her first recital this upcoming June. I have also worked with other moms on C.A.N.E., a sponsored event by our PTA, and our school’s biggest fundraising event of the year. As I continue to dive into new endeavors, I most look forward to meeting new moms and friends and becoming an integral part of the community. I am excited to share new and creative ideas as I grow as a new mom to the area!
