Body Back Week 2: My Own Personal Cheerleader

0

A woman stretching. If my Fairy Godmother appeared in front of me today, ready to grant me one wish, my wish would be that Shanae, our Body Back coach and owner of FIT4MOM Fairfield County, follow me around as I go through my day.  She’d be my cheerleader {pom poms optional}.  And that alone would make me one happy mama!

Here’s why:

Following through is my biggest downfall when it comes to fitness.  I have the best intentions for planning work out, but the actual workout itself never seemed to happen.   My days are filled with “life,” so gym classes go skipped, neighborhood jogs never seem to fit into my schedule, and the excuses go from there.  So, when I was allowed to participate in Body Back, I knew that making this type of commitment to myself was huge – I didn’t want to let Shanae or myself down this time.

Like any fabulous coach, Shanae spends each Monday and Wednesday session cheering us on as we push-up, plank, and sweat.  When you think you can’t do anything more, there’s Shanae to tell that you can do anything {this is precisely the type of motivation I need at 5:30 a.m. on a Monday!}.

The way Shanae coaches us through our workouts makes me want to have her around me all the time.  As I run through a set of mountain climbers, she’ll say, “just 30 more seconds, you can do ANYTHING for 30 seconds,” or as I prepare to hold a wobbly side plank, she’ll say, “you can do this for one minute, you can do ANYTHING for 1 minute”.  I think it’s her confidence in us that I love.  She truly believes what she says and will jump along with anyone struggling to make it through a particular exercise in a completely non-intimidating way.   Not only does her passion for fitness shine through, her passion for helping moms achieve goals in their levels of fitness shines through as well.

Even though Body Back meets only twice per week, Shanae’s daily communications via our private Facebook group keep me going!  From thoughtful questions to help us connect to motivational thoughts or quotes, she helps keep us going and keep us on track for success with the program.  I am confident that if I needed Shanae any time of the day, she’d be there.

She has helped me realize that working out is not just about me; it’s about sending a positive message to your children to treat yourself well and keep yourself healthy.  Shanae is even more incredible because she is a mom of three, including a four-month-old.  Beyond motherhood, she is incredibly passionate about working with moms and surrounding herself with a positive mommy community.  She is truly a mom who leaves me awed and pondering, “how does she do it all”?

So, Fairy Godmother, if you’re listening, I’d love to have Shanae there while grocery shopping, cheering for me when I choose to fill my cart with nutritious food or when I enter a building and take the stairs instead of the elevator.  I’d even love to have her there, cheering me on, when my son is starting to meltdown towards the end of the day – anything to help me keep going!
