Rainy Day Crafts

It’s almost time for March to come in like a lion and out like a lamb, so it’s always a good idea to have some backup rainy day crafts ready to go. These are my arsenal of supplies with which you can do almost any kind of crafty find on Pinterest!

Supplies:

Watercolors or some kind of paint that is washable

Cotton balls

Popsicle sticks

Glue and tape of course and bonus points if you can get that fun tape with colors and designs

Different colored construction paper as well as left over wrapping paper from various events

Toothpicks

Marshmallows (the mini ones)

Paper plates (even leftover party ones will do)

Pipe cleaners

And keep those paper towel rolls and egg cartons!

Now for my top 5 rainy day crafting ideas:

5 Pipe Cleaner Animals – These animals are primarily reptiles and appeal to most kids.

4 Paper Plate Animals – This craft is especially fun for emergent readers. You can connect them to the alphabet or book.

3 Cotton Ball Art – I just let my son paint the cotton balls or use markers. I don’t want to bother with dying them.

2 Marshmallow Fun – I love these creations!  They are a little complicated for my 4.5 years, but my 4th graders LOVE making them.

1 Construction Paper and Paper Towel Rolls This is a fantastic way to let your kid(s) get their creative juices flowing. You can use any supplies you have because the sky’s the limit.

How do you get through the sometimes endless rainy spring days?

Maria Sette
Maria is a full-time mom, teacher, wife, daughter, and sister, who feels pulled in too many directions! Her older son Michael took over 24 hours to be born, and at six-months-old was diagnosed with allergies to dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, shrimp, and wheat…all after exclusively nursing because she was SO SURE that would help him be a healthy kid. Luckily at age 1, he began to outgrow some of his allergies. Fingers crossed the others will soon follow because that plus a husband who doesn’t eat any veggies and Maria always battling her weight makes for three meals to prepare every night. Luckily, Christopher, her younger son, is a cooperative eater! As someone who has always been committed to making positive change, Maria uses her privilege and position as an educator and mom to work toward a most anti-racisit, equitibile, and inclusive world. Recently, Maria has even started getting up at 5am to workout in her basement. (Thank you pandemic living!) She is addicted to reading chicklit on her Kindle app in the dark, most Trader Joe’s products, and watching TikToks.
