Planning for the Future with The Barrato Law Firm, LLC

Like all busy moms I am currently living day by day. However, my calendar is booked solid with birthday parties, family gatherings, after school activities, sports, work events, and so much more. I try my best to plan ahead but the unfinished items on my to-do list and the stress of it all makes me feel like I’m barely surviving. I’ve gotten really good at planning for the worst and I try to always have a backup plan. So why, after 10 years of marriage and 3 children, do we still not have a plan for when the worst actually happens?Chris Barrato

Most people either forget the need for estate planning or put it off because they do not want to talk about it. For me it’s a little bit of both. In this day and age estate planning is important to have in place. Thanks to The Barrato Law Firm, LLC I finally made it all happen.

The principal member of the firm, Chris Barrato, presently lives in Fairfield with his wife and three children. Chris and his wife grew up in Westport, and his family has been there almost 40 years and his wife’s family for over 80 years. Prior to coming back “home” to practice law, he was a prosecutor in New York City. One of the unfortunate things he has recently come across is the sudden, untimely death of the parents of his children’s friends. In a couple of these situations the deceased parent did not have any estate planning in place.

We all know how unpredictable life can be so my husband and I finally took the plunge and met with Chris to get our affairs in order. The process was extremely quick and easy. To start, Chris sent a series of questions via email in order to prepare a set of 6 documents – a Will, Living Will and a Power of Attorney for both myself and my husband. This would ensure that our family and children would be taken care of in the case of an untimely death.

Chris then drafted up the documents and we set up a date and time to meet. Chris was extremely flexible and was so kind when I had to reschedule after receiving the dreaded phone call from the school nurse requesting that I pick my little guy up from school. He understands that we need to always expect the unexpected.

When we finally did meet we needed a witness present. Chris gave a detailed description of what was included in each document. He took time to answer all of our questions. Then all we needed to do was sign away to ensure that our future was properly planned for.

I love that Chris’ goal is to provide sophisticated legal services that are tailored to each client’s particular needs and interests. You cannot always fit the round peg into the square hole. Each client and situation is different, so he is able to adapt to what is presented.

The Barrato Law Firm, LLC is a general legal practice with a focus on basic estate planning, business formation and real estate related matters. Additionally Chris’ practice and area of specialty is in real estate transactions where he has handled over 1,000 matters over the last 17 years in practice. He is happy to address any issues or questions local families may have.

If you haven’t done so yet, I encourage you to put estate planning on the top of your to-do list!
