A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: November 2017

Pack away the costumes and start Pinteresting turkey and stuffing recipes because November is here! This month is all about giving thanks and we are thankful that we have the best readers. Here is a list of family fun events to enjoy this month. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

Bridgeport

  • All Month :: Find an adventure at Discovery Adventure Park. This month’s activities include Magic Pebbles Hunt on Friday, November 3 and Election Day Climb on Tuesday, November 7.
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Book a sitter and head over to Discovery Museum for an evening of local beer tasting at Harvest Brew Fest Version 2.0.
  • Saturday, November 11 :: Welcome Santa to Bass Pro Shops. There will be carolers, photos with Santa, crafts, gift card giveaway, and hot chocolate and cookies.
  • Saturday, November 11 :: Veterans get in free, with a 20% discount for their families to the Beardsley Zoo
  • Friday, November 24 :: Skip the mall on Black Friday and go to Discovery Museum for hands-on learning, live science demonstrations, planetarium shows, elf scavenger hunt, green screen holiday card photo opportunity, and even shopping!
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Danbury 

  • All Month :: Enjoy a sensory friendly environment at AMC. Movies for this month include Thor: Ragnarok (Saturday, November 11 and Tuesday, November 14), Coco (Sunday, November 25), and Justice League (Tuesday, November 28).
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Fairfield

  • Friday, November 3 – Saturday, November 4 :: Get a jump start on your holiday shopping at the Holiday Pop-Up Market at Fairfield Museum and History Center. There will be handcrafted jewelry, accessories, home decor, fashion, hostess gifts, and more.
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Celebrate world diversity through international arts, music, food, crafts and games at the town-wide McKinley World’s Fair. This year’s theme is Famous Locations. There will be food available to purchase from a variety of local restaurants.
  • Saturday, November 18 :: Join the Fairfield University Bookstore for Llama Llama Red Pajama Storytime. Meet Llama Llama at the coolest PJ Party ever! A live costume character will accompany our story-read-aloud! All kids 3 & up can come dressed in their favorite pajamas.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Ho-ho-ho! Santa arrives in Fairfield! Each child can visit with Santa and will receive a small gift; horse and wagon rides, petting zoo, classic holiday music, and more. A food truck restaurant will sell food and drinks.

Greenwich

New Canaan

  • Friday, November 10 :: Join the New Canaan Nature Center for their Friday Family Fun Night: The Science of Wildlife. Discover the science behind how animals are especially adapted to survive in their natural habitats. There will be hands-on experiments, interactive games and activities, lots of learning, and more at this family-friendly program.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Join the New Canaan Nature Center for their Thanksgiving Weekend Waddle. Grab the entire family for a healthy, invigorating Trail Trek to work off that holiday meal. 

Newtown

Norwalk

  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Sunday, November 5 :: Learn about kindness, compassion, and celebrating differences at LOVE ALL Storytelling Family Event at the Norwalk Public library. 
  • Saturday, November 11 – Sunday, November 12 :: Head over to the Maritime Aquarium for Veterans Weekend Touch-a-Truck. There will be two military vehicles open for exploration and photos. Additionally, during the entire month of November, the aquarium is offering free admission to all active-duty military and veterans of our armed forces for Veterans Gratitude Month.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Redding

Rowayton

  • Sunday, November 26 :: Watch Downtown Rowayton come alive with twinkling lights at the annual holiday town lighting, Light Up Rowayton

Stamford

  • Sunday, November 5 :: Touch-A-Truck and Chili Cook-Off at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. There will also be a Trick or Treat!
  • Friday, November 17 :: Shop local farm market vendors at Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s Holiday Local Market.
  • Saturday, November 18 :: Get a backstage look at the UBS Parade Spectacular and watch the giant helium balloons come to life. The Point72 Giant Balloon Inflation Party will feature exciting performances, music, clowns, holiday characters, and a visit from Santa!
  • Sunday, November 19 :: Watch the UBS Parade Spectacular, one of the largest helium balloon parades in the country, featuring everyone’s favorite giant balloon characters, award winning marching bands and fabulous floats.  Fun for the whole family!
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Watch the classic animated television special A Charlie Brown Christmas come to  life on stage at The Palace.

Stratford

  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Thursday, November 23 :: Burn off some energy and calories before a big Thanksgiving dinner at the Turkey Day Trot.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Trumbull

  • Saturday, November 4 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Military Appreciation Humvee. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, November 4 :: Find literary treasures at Friends of the Trumbull Library Book Sale.
  • Friday, November 24 :: Spend Black Friday as Track Friday by focusing on charity, community and health at the Trumbull High School track.
  • Saturday, November 25 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Christmas Tree Ornament. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Westport

Wilton

  • Friday, November 24 – Monday, January 15:: Bring your train lovers to the interactive Great Trains Holiday Exhibit at the Wilton Historical Society. Dressed for the holidays, the Wilton Historical Society’s historic 18th and 19th century buildings are transformed into a train-lovers delight with many different train layouts winding through tiny towns with a variety of different kinds of buildings, tunnels and two working Ferris Wheels! An expanded new Lego set up makes its debut this year. In a special train room for the youngest guests, there are buttons galore plus Thomas the Tank Engine and Brio for hands-on fun.
