A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: July 2018

July means that summer is in full swing. Kids are on summer vacation, and it’s time to take full advantage of all that Fairfield County has to offer! Here is a list of family fun events to enjoy this month. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

  • Sunday, July 1 :: Close out Barnum Festival at the annual Great Street Parade with a procession of firetrucks, bands, floats, clowns, performers, and community members traveling around Bridgeport’s scenic Seaside Park. Following the parade, enjoy the day at Barnumpalooza, a full day of fun and celebration of the city of Bridgeport and surrounding communities. There will be food trucks, live music, and plenty of carnival rides for kids.
  • Wednesday, July 4 :: Find an adventure at Discovery Adventure Park and celebrate Independence Day with fun music and cool holiday activities.
  • Wednesday, July 18 – Sunday, July 22 :: Be amazed at Cirque de Soleil – Corteo at Webster Bank Arena.
  • Sunday, July 29 :: Explore the science of magic and the magic of science at the second annual Discovery School of Science and Wizardry.


  • All Month :: Enjoy a sensory friendly environment at AMC. Movies for this month include Ant-Man and The Wasp (Tuesday, July 10 and Saturday, July 14) and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (Tuesday, July 24).


  • Saturday, July 14 :: Enjoy a day of fun for the whole family at Pinkney Park for the Annual RCA Rowayton River Ramble with activities for kids and adults alike. The fun includes food and beer tent, raw bar, live music, kids’ games, pony rides, face painting, petting zoo, local artists and vendors, and more!


  • All Month :: July 1-31 Waldo, the iconic book character, will be hiding in 25 downtown businesses for a fun summertime activity for kids and families. Pick up your Waldo passport on Sunday, July 1 at the Fairfield University Bookstore – your Waldo Headquarters! When you spot Waldo at any of the businesses listed, collect a store stamp/signature. On Tuesday, July 31, the Fairfield University Bookstore will host a Waldo Shindig with activities plus a chance to meet Waldo. Participants who’ve collected at least 20 or more store stamps/signatures will be eligible to win some terrific Waldo books and prizes!
  • Wednesday, July 18 :: Join Ganim’s Garden Center and Florist for its 7th Annual Ladies Night. Enjoy local artisans, food trucks (Christophe’s Crepes, Super Duper Weenie and Tipsy Cones), special plant sales, wine tasting with Harry’s Wine & Liquor and music with local musician John Torres! 
  • Saturday, July 21 :: Shop the Annual Sidewalk Sale & Street Fair presented by The Town of Fairfield and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.
  • Saturday, July 28 :: Play with FCMB at Ole Soccer (ages 2-8). We will play for 45 minutes on the field, where one of Ole’s great Coaches will entertain your children. After soccer, we will take the children to their Jungle Gym where they can play for another 45 minutes. The play date will conclude with pizza, water, and juice for the kids! Get tickets here.


  • Saturday, July 28 – Sunday, July 29 :: Join the Back Yard Beekeepers Association at Audubon Greenwich as they harvest honey from local bee hives. Attendees can get a chance to spin the extractor as it pulls honey from honeycomb. Honey will be available for purchase while supplies last. No RSVP required. All ages welcome and the event is free with admission to the center grounds.


  • Sunday, July 8 :: Bring your aspiring athletes (ages 6-12) to participate in the Race4Chase Kids Triathalon at Great Hollow Lake at Wolfe Park.

New Canaan

  • Saturdays & Sundays :: Bring your budding theatre-goers to the Summer Theatre of New Canaan. July performances include Peter Pan, James and the Giant Peach, and Balloonacy. Check here for the schedule and to purchase tickets.
  • Wednesday, July 4 :: Celebrate the Fourth of July at Waveny Park with their 38th Annual Family Fourth of July Celebration.



  • Thursday, July 5 :: Enjoy free admission and activities at Stepping Stones Museum from 5-8 p.m.


  • Tuesday, July 17 :: Play with FCMB at Three Roots Education! Children and their caregiver will have the chance to explore organic play dough, organic watercolors, and experience a Garden Story Time. This is an exclusive trial class and is the perfect introduction to Three Roots Education. A selection of organic juice, tea, and fruit will be available during the event. Get tickets here.
  • Saturday, July 21 :: Spend your Saturday in Ridgefield with sidewalk sales, games, a variety of delicious food, live music, fun activities, and more at Summerfest.



  • Thursdays {July 12, July 19, July 26} :: Drop in to Pequot Library and beat the heat! Gather in the Children’s Library and then enjoy some summer-themed stories and activities in the cool of the shade outdoors on the Great Lawn. For ages 3+. Free and open to the public. 
  • Wednesday, July 4 :: Celebrate the 4th of July with the annual Pequot bike parade! Bring your festively decorated bike, scooter, or wagon to Five Corners in Southport Village and parade to the Great Lawn for some fun and games!
  • Friday, July 27 – Tuesday, July 31 :: Find literary treasures (plus CDs, DVDs, records, etc.) at Pequot Library’s Summary Book Sale.


  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays :: Beat the heat every Tuesday and Wednesday and enjoy a free movie at Bowtie Cinemas as part of their Summer Kids Series 2018. The series runs from June 19 to August 15.
  • Saturday, July 14 :: Touch-a-truck at Union Memorial Church to support The Salvation Army Diaper Bank Program. 


  • Sunday, July 29 :: Visit Fairfield Craft Ales for a Nautical Pint Paint & Sip. Each ticket includes materials and instruction to create two pint glasses plus a glass of beer from the brewery. Food may be brought to this event.


  • Sunday, July 1 :: Bring the kids for a fun day of trucks, cars, and big vehicles to Barnum Festival’s Car Show and Touch-a-Truck at Trumbull High School. This event is free to the public with food vendors and activities available as a part of Trumbull Day. 
  • Sunday, July 1 :: Meet neighbors, bring the kids, and enjoy some free ice cream at Christian Heritage School for Trumbull Community Free Ice Cream Night. There will be games, chalk art, music, and maybe some antique cars.
  • Sunday, July 1 :: Trumbull Day will conclude with a full day of carnival rides, amusement games, food trucks, band music, car show, a fantastic fireworks display. 
  • Saturday, July 21 :: Sing, play natural musical instruments, and dance to some fun summer songs at the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center. Free evebt for families and children of all ages. 
  • Sunday, July 22 :: Do your kids like to get dirty? Register for a hands-on immersive program at the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center that will encourage children to dig, splash, and create with nature-based activities. They’ll play in TNAC’s mud kitchen, learn how to make their own paints and natural art, and maybe even decorate themselves! Free event for children ages 5-11, class size limited.
  • Saturday, July 24 :: Touch-a-truck at Old Mine Park with Bright Horizons at Trumbull.


  • Wednesdays :: Bring the family to Levitt Pavillion for a free children’s concert as part of the Melissa & Doug® Children’s Series. The series runs every Wednesday from July 4 through August 22.
  • Friday, July 13 :: Play with FCMB at Commerce Park Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics and Party Time with Music Mike! At this hands on event, children will learn about nutrition, see an X-ray demonstration, learn how to keep a healthy smile and more! Children will rotate through stations and each child will receive a goodie bag and a prize. To make it even more fun, Party Time with Music Mike will also be there playing all the greatest hits for kids. Children will interact with several instruments and be encouraged to sing and dance along. Light healthy snacks will also be provided. Register here.
  • Saturday, July 14 :: Enjoy a day packed with family fun at Wakeman Town Farm’s Family Fun Day for an annual down-home family event for kids and families of all ages. There will be games, crafts, face painting, live music, learning opportunities, farm animals, and more!
  • Friday, July 20 ::  Join Earthplace and the Westport Library for a REEL Science movie screening of Honey I Shrunk the Kids. There will be a pre-film talk about the ecology of backyards and hand-on activities with MakerSpace. Free event and popcorn!
