The Heart of Mom Mentorship

mom mentorshipOne particular day, I was having a really tough mom time.  After Hubby got home, I took my wonderful self to the mall. It was a great feeling to be out without kids and exactly what I needed that day. As I was taking my sweet little time looking at clothes in one of my favorite stores, there was a lady there who was admiring the same coat as me. We started talking about this particular company and its chic clothing line.

Somehow, the topic of conversation switched to motherhood and she shared with me her experience as a mom of two college girls. She stressed the importance of safeguarding marriage and family. Given that I was a total stranger to her, I was amazed that she took the time to share her experience with me. I really needed some encouragement that day as a wife and work at home mom.

The woman bared her heart. She told me that in spite of all the challenges, she is thankful that she and her husband instilled strong values to their daughters. She was very proud of her girls and was thankful that they have each other as sisters and friends. She told me she was fortunate to have stayed home with her girls. She used that opportunity to guide them through each stage of life.

I listened with humility and a thankful heart and knew that this MOMent was exactly what I needed. I was so grateful that this woman took the time to encourage me. She showed me that day the heart of mom mentorship. I thanked her and told her that I wish that more young wives or young mothers will experience this type of MOMent. I don’t remember her name and I may never see her again, but I pray that wherever she is that she is blessed for sharing with me those powerful life lessons.

I realize the gift in that MOMent and make it a point every chance I get to pay it forward. This woman made me a believer that we all have the heart of mom mentorship in us. Everyone of us has a gift in the sum of our mom life experiences to complement and empower each other. We are stronger together as we celebrate each other. This Zig Ziglar’s quote sums it up:

We can have everything in life we want, if we just help enough others get what they want.

Have you ever had a similar experience? How can you pay it forward?
