Mom Crush: DJ Tanner

mom crushAs a child of the 80s, I have vivid memories of watching Full House on Tuesday nights. Remember back in the day before the DVR and Netflix? When you actually had to watch live TV or miss it? DJ was the coolest young girl, who was honest, kind and wholesome. Everyone, including me, wanted to be her, or at the very least be her friend. Her family seemed perfect, even if her mom had passed away. And Uncle Jesse and Joey were the best “mannys” around!

Fuller House is just as heartwarming now, and DJ Tanner is now the coolest mom streaming. Like her TV daddy Danny, DJ has her Mommy Army of Stephanie and Kimmy helping her raise her three cute boys, which allows her to be a working mom, just like me. In fact, I’m not too proud to admit that I have a Mom Crush on her!

I would love to meet DJ at a Starbucks and just chat. She seems so approachable, and I totally want to raid her closet. In fact, as I was watching the second season while working out, I thought to myself, how the heck does she have the time to do all she does and look so good? (Duh, she has a stylist.) But oh Mylanta! What I wouldn’t give to have 1/2 her style.

To be honest, I think I would like Candace Cameron Bure just as much as DJ. I have started to follow her on both Instagram and Facebook, and she, too, is super likable. As a mom of 3, note just like DJ, who has a hockey husband on the road a lot, Candace is the default parent. It’s also no surprise to me that I have gravitated to using her as my role model, she Candace recently turned 40 (the new 20). She made a comeback as an actor and a woman, giving me hope that I will be able to do the same.

If I could ask DJ Tanner one question though, I would totally want to know the truth….is she really always so cheerful and happy (or is she a screamer like me) and how she avoids dropping the ball?

Who is your mom crush?

Maria Sette
Maria is a full-time mom, teacher, wife, daughter, and sister, who feels pulled in too many directions! Her older son Michael took over 24 hours to be born, and at six-months-old was diagnosed with allergies to dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, shrimp, and wheat…all after exclusively nursing because she was SO SURE that would help him be a healthy kid. Luckily at age 1, he began to outgrow some of his allergies. Fingers crossed the others will soon follow because that plus a husband who doesn’t eat any veggies and Maria always battling her weight makes for three meals to prepare every night. Luckily, Christopher, her younger son, is a cooperative eater! As someone who has always been committed to making positive change, Maria uses her privilege and position as an educator and mom to work toward a most anti-racisit, equitibile, and inclusive world. Recently, Maria has even started getting up at 5am to workout in her basement. (Thank you pandemic living!) She is addicted to reading chicklit on her Kindle app in the dark, most Trader Joe’s products, and watching TikToks.
