Wow, here it is, my first post as an official contributor for Fairfield County Mom! It feels surreal. I have been guest blogging for about a year, and I feel so lucky to be part of a team of strong, intellectual, amazing women.
When I became a mom 7 years ago to an amazing little girl, her existence took my husband and I by surprise. While we were completely ready to have children, we did not think that we would get pregnant as quickly as we did! We hadn’t even gotten to our first anniversary when we found out our lives were going to change for the better.
My pregnancy was ok, nothing spectacular. I was definitely not one of those women that enjoyed being pregnant, nor did I feel like I was “glowing.”
I ended up having a c-section, and that experience was horrid. My recovery was a long and painful road, and I was also struggling with postpartum depression. I made the decision that I was one and done. I could never go through feeling like I did again.
Of course, when my daughter turned 2, I started to change my mind. I wanted my daughter to grow up with a sibling. I had a discussion with my husband, and he was on board to have another, but we both decided to wait until she was 3 years old as we thought we would get pregnant as fast as we did the first time. But, really, does anything ever go as planned?
After a year of trying on our own, we both decided to get tests done to make sure everything was ok. Both of our testings turned out fine, but I still was not getting pregnant. Due to unexplained infertility, we decided to try IUI. After a couple failed attempts, my heart could not take it anymore, and we took a break. A year later, my doctor gave me the option of trying IUI again or going straight to IVF. We decided to go with IVF and got pregnant in our first round. We started the process in January 2018, and by December 2018, our twins joined our family and completed the missing pieces to our puzzle.
Now, my days are hectic, my house is a constant mess, and my coffee is always cold, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
