Meet Leanne: My Meant to Be

2

Do you ever pause, take a step back, and look at your life from the outside? Lately, I do this quite often. Never, in a million years, did I imagine that I would end up settling down with my husband and three kids in the little shoreline town that my husband and I grew up in. We live in a quiet, cozy little neighborhood in Stratford and our kids go to the same elementary school that my husband attended with the children of many of our own classmates from the past. Sometimes life hits full circle, and it is the tiny things like this that show us what is meant to be.

My name is Leanne. I’m a high school teacher and a mom! I live in a whirlwind of chaos since I became a full-time working mom almost seven years ago. I am not the type to sit on a decision for a long time. That is why all these major milestones happen so fast. A marriage, a Master’s degree, 3 kids, a few moves before settling down, and the constant desire to keep busy and have fun while we’re at it. Many people wonder how I keep it all together, but I’m truly flying by the seat of my pants, and I don’t want to do it any other way.

I have learned more recently, though, to take it all in. I am living my own personal dream life. It is in the small, special moments at home with my husband and my kids that prove this. It’s when the big one teaches the middle one how to play a game. Or, when the middle one helps the little one get a snack. It’s when the little one calls for the big one in the morning instead of mommy or daddy.

It’s also in the small, special moments with my students in my classroom. A student making a connection or drawing a conclusion on his or her own, or staying to chat a couple minutes after class. That means the world to me. All I need are these little moments to make my heart burst with joy. It is these moments that show me I am doing something right.

Everything is a full circle, and I am exactly where I am meant to be.

  1. I think it’s so great when Mom’s share their personal experiences with one another. It seems so much more real then picking up a “how to” book, and there is so much validation in knowing other women share the same stories. I can remember when I too felt pretty crazy at times, raising 5 kids, 2 of my own and 3 step kids and also flying by the seat of m pants and just hoping I would do it all right. Now I am a grandmother, it seems like just yesterday I was trying to figure it all out. Love hearing all your stories and seeing all those great pics of your family. Not having cell phones back then I was not one to break out a camera so I don’t have all those memories in print to look back on so I’m a little jealous of that. It will be so fun for your kids to look back on that when they get older. Anyway, you are a great writer and TY for sharing!
