Meet Clara: Finding the Way

Hi! My name is Clara and I am excited to be a new contributor to Fairfield County Moms Blog, as well as working with a wonderful team of mamas!

Where I Started: I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York, way upstate, about 30 miles Northwest of Albany, New York. I am lucky to say I have 4 younger sisters and a strong mama, and we talk every day via group chat. I wouldn’t change that for the world! In high school, I met and started dating my (now) husband. We have been together ever since!

After high school, I attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. While there,  I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in English. However, I didn’t end up becoming a classroom teacher as I had envisioned for so many years. See more about that below…

How I Landed in Fairfield County: In 2006, right after college graduations, I moved to Norwalk, CT. I joined my husband (then still boyfriend) because he had a job waiting for him. I started working at the local grocery store to pay my student loans. Four years later, on a vacation to Disney, he finally proposed and we planned a cruise ship wedding! Twenty friends and family were able to join us on a vacation after our wedding ceremony in Cape Liberty, NJ. In 2012, we bought our home in Trumbull, and have been enjoying the small town feel that resembles “home.” We’ve now been in Connecticut 13 years, and I am still trying to find my way. It’s certainly an adjustment here from my small-town roots in Amsterdam, New York. I will forever be grateful to the friends I’ve made here that get me through the tougher days.

Building a Career: So, about that college degree and my teacher certifications? Nothing from New York, where I obtained my degree and teacher certifications, transferred to Connecticut. So with that, I changed my focus and began to explore the Early Childhood field. I started as a toddler teacher and then grew into preschool roles, finally landing an Administrative role about 5 years into my career. At that point, I earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Administration and Management and continued to grow as a director of a childcare program. Now, I am an Educational Consultant for several of the programs I’ve worked for in the past. However, now my most important job is being Mommy to two sassy little girls.

Being a Mama: As the oldest of 5 sisters, I always imagined being a boy mom. I figured that my sisters and I would have to bring some boys into the family. Much to my surprise, I have those 2 sassy little girls I mentioned above. Abby is turning 6 soon, and I have a 2 year old, Sofia. Motherhood is certainly a roller coaster of a journey, as my girls couldn’t be more opposite in their personalities and interests. I’m still learning how to braid hair, since I’m far from a girly girl. But, I’ll embrace that, and roll with it, and continue doing my best to nurture my girls into young ladies. Maybe I’ll get that braiding down soon! I could never in my wildest dreams have imagined being a stay-at-home mom since I came from a large family whose parents worked multiple jobs. But I couldn’t do it without my husband. He has remained supportive while I continue to find my way in this journey of motherhood and parenthood.

Where You Might Find Me: For now, I will continue my role as a stay-at-home mommy, while working part-time as a consultant. In my free time, I enjoy planning our family vacations {yay cruises!}, and visiting my family in upstate NY. The girls and I enjoy our local parks and being able to visit coastal Connecticut on summer break.

However, I won’t claim to enjoy all of the responsibilities that come with Adulthood and managing the household {usually during my little one’s nap time}.

Weekdays, you can catch me at the YMCA getting in a workout, or taking time in the lobby to work on my next post for this blog! I’m so excited to have FC Moms Blog be part of my journey as I continue to find my way. If you made it this far, thanks for reading! I hope I can connect with some readers that can relate to relocating and finding a new way, in a new place.

Clara is a part-time working mom that lives in Trumbull, CT. She and her husband, Joe, were high school sweethearts that began their journey in Upstate NY (think capital region part of NY). Together, they moved to Fairfield County in 2006, after college graduations. Clara will forever hold the magic of Disney in her heart, as she and her husband got engaged in Epcot Center in 2010. She married Joe on a cruise ship in 2011, with 60 close family and friends in attendance. Clara is the proud mommy to two girls Abby {Sept 2013} and Sofia {May 2017}. In addition to being "Mommy," Clara is an Early Childhood Consultant. Outside of her two jobs, you may find her on a cruise, or traveling to New York to visit family.
