When You Look Back

When you look back.

Even though we are living during a time of uncertainty, there is still so much to be thankful for.  Although we won’t be going to a child’s performance, out to dinner with friends, trivia night, or a concert, we can be home with our families.

It is overwhelming and exhausting to add to the everyday load between work and parenting. I am a stay-at-home mom trying to raise two very spirited twins and a lovely older daughter. I also volunteer with several different non-profits and help as much as I can. It’s not easy, and it keeps me busy, but it doesn’t deter me from doing the things I enjoy. Right now I’m still trying to help them the best I can and being connected to those who need help gives extra purpose during this time. It is now more important than ever to stay connected to friends, colleagues, and family!

I am a mom, which, as we all know, encompasses many different roles (most recently homeschool teachers), but I am still my own person.  I have my own interests, and sometimes I need to cater to them. The majority of the time, the kids and husband come first, but occasionally I put myself first.

In this stage of life and probably for the rest of it, I will always be tired in some capacity, but I don’t want to think of that as an excuse to miss out on the things I enjoy. I don’t want to look back at my life and say, “Oh, I can’t believe I missed that because I was too tired!”

I also know that not everyone has the help or resources to do what they love, but try to do something for yourself with what you have available to you. Now that we are stuck at home, it’s harder than ever.  I’ve been trying to get a walk in alone if I can to listen to an audible and having virtual chats with friends. Now is the time to be creative with what you can do that you’d enjoy, everyone deserves a little break and something for themselves!

This is hard. But in a few years when you look back at this time and when things start to open up again make sure you don’t take them for granted.  Get out to do what you love and you will be confident that you still enjoyed life as more than just a mom.  You enjoyed life for YOU.
