Keeping Tradition

This week marked my 4th wedding anniversary. My husband and I got married on Block Island, one of our favorite places on Earth! I could go on and on about why it’s such a great place to visit, especially with kids, but for now I want to share with you a fun little tradition we keep. Every year since our wedding, we go back and visit BI, and as simple as this sounds, we take a picture. But last year, we realized how cool it would be to take the picture every year in front of the same spot! (We took pictures in the other years in-between, but not at the same location.)

Here we are, the day we were married, in front of the BI bus that was used to transport guests from our church to the Atlantic Inn, where the reception was held.

Then last year, we went back with our 9-month old son, (and our dog– who we call our “firstborn”), and took the same type of picture in front of the same bus.

This year, we went back with our son who is now 21-months old, and I was 35-weeks pregnant. (The dog stayed at home since we just visited for the day).

(And by the way, for our first wedding anniversary, we returned to the island with our dog who we had just rescued, and for our second anniversary I was 30-weeks pregnant with our son).

We all have pictures to document our growing families, but sometimes it’s that much more poignant in front of the same location!

More than likely, my husband and I are done adding family members to our photos, but we hope to return every year as our children (and we!) grow older. As much as I love exploring new places, and traveling around the world, I think there is something to be said for having a special place to visit where you know you’ll always have a good time and want to return to. And with kids especially, it’s great to find a place where you know they can be comfortable, safe, and have a great time!

Do you have any fun anniversary traditions you like to keep? Or a place you love to visit every year with your family?
