Meet Erica: I Hope I’m Not Too Boring

Celebrating our sons’ first joint birthday celebration!

My name is Erica, and I am new to the Fairfield County Mom!

I am so excited to share all my knowledge of the fun things to do in this amazing area! I grew up in Greenwich and moved to Stamford about seven years ago. I am a stay-at-home mom to two handsome little gentlemen (Noah-3 and Dylan-1) and married to a Norwalk Firefighter (Pete).

Our family lifestyle is atypical, and our plans can change at the drop of a hat due to my husband’s ever-changing schedule. And when I refer to “plans,” I mean cleaning, reorganizing, grocery trips, and eight loads of laundry (yes, eight! It used to be nine when Dylan was a baby and spit up after almost every bottle). On a day off, we carve out time to complete plans and projects or put everything on hold because a meeting and overtime came up.

Our mornings are probably very similar to many of yours.

5:30 a.m. – Everyone starts to wake up (no alarm clock is used here!).

6 a.m. – The little ones start the breakfast routine with milk and bananas (every morning).

Bathroom rituals to follow – this is where the fun starts. Noah, who is potty trained, usually refuses to go to the bathroom first thing in the morning. Roll the tears and the statement, “Just tell mommy when you need to go,” which happens three hours later. Thankfully, no accidents happen.

Dylan, who is still in diapers, DREADS diaper, and outfit changes. Poop usually ends up on the carpet, followed by chasing his naked bottom around the house. He started flipping over on the changing table at around eight months old, so I knew this would be challenging. This action reoccurs EVERY diaper change, and we’ve tried every tactic possible, but we would love input!

Usually, by 9 a.m., we are ready to venture out into the county to some of our favorite places.

The Stamford Museum and Nature Center, Stamford Town Center, Cove Island Park, Chelsea Piers CT, Bruce Park Playground, Cherry Lawn Playground, Harbor Point Playground, Fairway Market, Target, Trader Joe’s, Stepping Stones, Maritime Aquarium, Stew Leonard’s, Daddy’s firehouse, CrossFit Norwalk are a few of our favorites.

Yes, we have A LOT of favorite places, and I bet some of these may be on some of your lists (I hope they are for play date purposes!). The three of us are home together all day for five FULL days, so we like to explore what our area has to offer (and try to get some errands accomplished while entertaining and educating these little guys).

Some of our favorite things to do at home are play trains, lots and lots of trains, Play-Doh, blow bubbles, go for long walks, read some of our favorite books, and have lots of dance parties while incorporating lots of hugs and kisses.

I always wanted to be home with the kids, but I didn’t think it would be possible for various reasons. Ultimately, I left my job at a trade show company in Norwalk after Noah was born because of my travel schedule and my husband’s work schedule. It was the most difficult decision, and the unknown is downright terrifying! It took a few years, life’s ups and downs, and two kids later to accept this lifestyle. There are moments I crack, and I keep reminding myself this is exactly where I want to be!

Hopefully, I didn’t bore you to tears. I could tell you guys about all the funny things that come out of my 3-year-old’s mouth or the number of times I have to pull my 1-year-old off the stove, but then I might not have anything to write about later.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and hearing your feedback and support!

We are a Crossfitting, Paleo eating family (for the most part) who love going on little adventures whether its to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, Trader Joe's or far away to have some delicious not-so Paleo food. Our household is currently obsessed with trains, bubbles, Play-Doh, and spending as much time outside as possible.
