This post comes from deep within the heart. I started to write this just a few hours after watching my best friend drive away with her whole house packed. Tears were certainly flowing today.
I’ll likely have moments of sadness here and there, as I try to build new mom friendships like this one.
Nothing could’ve predicted the friendship I’d gain when “Bee” moved to Fairfield County shortly after I. Sure, we knew each other in our college years, but we were mere acquaintances. Fast forward a few years later, and our friendship grew into a relationship I consider much like having another sister.
From weddings, to our first pregnancies (and seconds), the ups and downs of life, she’s been there for me. To me, this has been my family here in Connecticut, since we have no relatives close by. A friendship so close, that she and her husband took our oldest when I was in labor with my second child.
The list of how she’s been there for me goes on and on.
How will I ever find another friendship like this? It surely won’t compare, but I’m working on it. Working on it, in the sense, that I am trying to build on the friendships I’ve made in my local moms group. Are you a mom that struggles with this?
I know this next chapter will be difficult, in the sense I feel like I’m starting over. Moms need friends, and I think, even more so in a situation like mine where I have no family to fall back on.
Thankfully, it’s not goodbye, just “see you later.” Just another place to visit when we make our rounds in upstate New York to visit family. I’ve also learned so much from this experience. Like, the importance of having friends that you can rely on. Everyone needs to have a support system, and I want my daughters to know the importance of such friendships.
A shout out to all the Mamas who have been my “village” since my journey through motherhood began.
Going through this right now … 🙄 in Fairfield county 😬 Thank you for this article !
