Family Favorite Outdoor Toys

0

As warmer weather finally arrives, and social distancing has us all spending more time at home in our own backyards, I thought I’d share some of my family’s favorite outdoor toys. Over the years, these toys have provided countless hours of fun and entertainment for my now 7 and 4-year-old.

Crayola Sidewalk Chalk

This seemingly bottomless box of chalk is perfect for filling our driveway with rainbows, art, hopscotch, scooter paths, and gross-motor activity-filled obstacle courses. Find 101 chalk ideas here.

Fubbles No-Spill Bubbles

This Fubbles container is the answer to that feeling when your child is spilling way more bubble solution than they are blowing bubbles. Whether your child prefers to hold the whole container or just the wand, it’s easy to use and makes little to no mess.

Fubbles Bubble Blastin’ Machine

I’ve heard that not all bubble machines are the same, but we’ve had a lot of luck, and a lot of fun, with this Fubbles bubble machine releasing a steady stream of bubbles (and giggles!).

Melissa & Doug Sprinkler

This Melissa & Doug sprinkler is a good starter sprinkler because it’s stream is predictable. One daughter likes to run towards the center of it, and the other prefers to stay on the outskirts, so this is the perfect compromise on a hot day.

Melissa & Doug Binoculars & Magnifying Glass

These Melissa & Doug binoculars and magnifying glass aren’t strong, but they will instantly turn your child into a backyard explorer. Use them to take a closer look at leaves and petals, look for animal tracks, or go on a scavenger hunt. Try this Nature Scavenger Hunt from the Maritime Aquarium.

Kite

We usually only use our kite once a year at Greenwich’s annual Kite Flying Festival, but we brought it out on a windy quarantine afternoon, and now running the kite back and forth across our yard has become a favorite go-to activity.

Micro Scooters

Over the years my children have tried a few popular scooter brands, and we all agree that Micro Scooters are without a doubt the best. They are lightweight, stable, easy to steer, and maneuver. These scooters are more expensive, but the second-hand market is strong. Micro Scooters are built-to-last and all parts are replaceable.
