Excited to Share Experiences With You: Meet Greer

1

Hey, guys! My name is Greer, and I’m a single mom to an amazing three-year-old boy, Owen. If you had asked me, years ago, to describe what my future child would be like— what I hoped for, dreamed of, and realistically expected, I believe I would have described this little person right down to his eyelashes. Owen is bright and silly, thoughtful, active, hysterically funny (a trait he gets from me, of course), and super friendly. Above all else, he is a very happy child, who I am fortunate to have in my life. I feel like he saved my life in many ways, but perhaps that’s a story for another time.

That face! I can’t believe I grew something this cute.

His father and I weren’t together for very long. There’s a story there, too, but I try to be careful about when and how I tell it out of respect for everyone involved. Owen’s dad and I do our best to co-parent, but I am caring for my son on my own about 95% of the time at this point in our lives. Part of the reason I decided to become a part of the Fairfield County Mom team is that I want to be a voice for those of you whose families are a little to the left of what would be considered “traditional.” The main thing I want to get across to our readers is that the parenting experience is both bonding and universal. No matter what your family looks like, where you live, or what your parenting “philosophy” is, we are all in this together.

I’m looking forward to learning about your families and how you deal with the unique challenges of parenting under whatever circumstances are present in your life.

The other reason I’m excited about writing for this blog is that, as a Fairfield County native, I know how much fun the area can be for kids and families, especially during this time of year! I plan to take Owen to a few of the best family-friendly local attractions for the first time this summer, and I’m looking forward to sharing those experiences with you, our readers. Sometimes it’s so hard for us to slow down, to take a moment to enjoy what is happening right now. At the same time, it may seem counter-intuitive, I believe that blogging about my child will help me be able to do just that—that it will allow me to capture as many pieces of him as I can before they disappear into the next version of him, the one that will suddenly be there when I blink. It’s six months, a year, five years from now…..

So, I’m excited to have you along for the ride with me! If there are any great places you think Owen and I would love to go to this summer, please leave a suggestion in the comment section below! Thanks!
