Daycation in Milford

If you’re looking for an easy, family-friendly day trip, consider a visit to Milford! Situated on the eastern border of Fairfield County, Milford sits on the CT shoreline, and is accessible by car, train or boat. Charming and full of history, this beach community makes for the perfect destination on a summer day.

Start your Milford Daycation bright and early with a hot breakfast. Dine at The Corner, rated Best Breakfast in Connecticut for 2018 by People Magazine. They cook up a wide variety of meal options, including their “most loved and cherished” stuffed french toast. Just make sure you get there on the early side, as a line quickly forms around 9:30 a.m. on the weekends. An on-the-go option for mouth-watering morning goodies is Scratch Baking, where you’ll find an amazing selection of breakfast pizzas, sandwiches, and decadent baked goods. Both restaurants are less than a 5 minute walk from the Milford train station.

After breakfast, head to one of Milford’s beautiful beaches. Milford proudly boasts more miles of shoreline than any other town in Connecticut.  Although some of the beaches are private, there are plenty of public options, including Silver Sands, a beautiful state park. At Silver Sands, parking is free, the sand is clean, and there’s a great boardwalk that leads to nearby Walnut Beach. If you’re feeling adventurous, make the trek across the boardwalk and rent scooters or paddle boards at Scoot & Paddle. Walnut Beach is also home to the popular Walnut Beach Creamery and other fine establishments.

For midday eats, stop by The Greek Spot Café and Grill, just a short walk from Silver Sands. There you’ll find a creative menu and a low-key vibe. Crowd-pleasing dishes include a variety of veggie noodles and garlic feta fries. Or, if you’re looking for a change of scenery, head over to the Milford Green, the second longest green in New England, and home to many restaurants.

For some afternoon fun, take a walk around the picturesque green! Grab an iced coffee at Café Atlantique and enjoy the many small businesses in the area. With several clothing and jewelry boutiques, a children’s gift shop, a game board cafe, and more, there’s something for everyone. Or, venture to Milford’s first brewery and tap room, a kid and pet friendly establishment with a shaded biergarten. Tribus Beer Company, located three miles from the Milford Green, is a great spot for playing games, checking out live music, sipping on fresh-brewed beer, and munching on snacks from local food trucks.

Ready for a cocktail after your day of adventures? There are plenty of happy hour and dinner options, many with outdoor seating. For tasty food and a fun outdoor patio, grab the lobster bomb at Stonebridge Restaurant, hot oil pizza at Colony Grill, or buffalo wings at Archie Moore’s. If you’re looking for something more quiet and mellow, Seabreeze Pizza Plus is adorable with indoor and outdoor seating and incredible dishes (reservations are typically needed). If you’d prefer to take things inside, Seven Seas offers award-winning lobster rolls, or Dave & Buster’s provides enough arcade space to keep your family entertained for hours. And if you’re visiting with the kiddos on a Sunday, dine at SBC to check out the magician, who makes his rounds to all the tables beginning at 5 p.m.

And of course, no daycation is complete without ice cream! While there are many well-loved ice cream shops in town, Scoopy Doo’s is a fan favorite for locals and visitors alike. Located on the water, it’s the perfect spot for enjoying locally made ice cream and watching sailboats coast in and out of Milford Harbor.
