As parents, many of us focus on the different seasons of parenting and struggle to keep our marriage a priority. One way my husband and I try to remember we aren’t just parents is by having day dates. Day dates work better for us rather than date nights because of our babysitting situation. And living in Fairfield County we are blessed to have many fun and different types of opportunities for dates that are only a quick drive away.
RPM Raceway: Open not even for a year, RPM has established itself as one of the hit places in Stamford. Equipped with a raceway, bowling alley, and arcade games, RPM will make any couple feel like they’re on their first date again. BONUS: There’s a full bar and food too. A one stop date!
BETA: Also relatively new to the Stamford scene, BETA Climbing is perfect for the more active /outdoorsy couple. A day pass is only $25 and you can rent shoes and harnesses for $5. With over 100 rope routes and 140 boulder problems, you can start your climb early and climb away.
Captain John’s Tiki Tours: Start your summer right! As early as May 1, you can book an excursion to learn more about the beautiful Connecticut coast and Long Island Sound. The tours include the rich history of the area, as well as highlight the unique wildlife of the area. If sailing is your speed, here are some more local opportunities for you.
Panic Room: Not for the faint of heart. Panic rooms are a great way to test any relationship. This is a great way to spend some time together and have a real change of pace.
Bowlmor: Not your average bowling alley, Bowlmor has 38 lanes, an arcade and laser tag. With food and drinks delivered to your lane, let the good times roll.
Breweries: For those who enjoy hops and all things beer related, why not get a map of Connecticut and start crossing off all the amazing breweries we have to offer!? If you’re more into wine than beer, there are numerous vineyards to explore.
Casinos: With Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods and Empire City Casinos all close in proximity, why not take your partner and try your luck at the tables? BONUS: On your way to Mohegan or Foxwoods stop in Mystic. It’s not just for kids! The seaport offers walk-on day sails, excellent restaurants (besides Music Pizza), and the views can’t be beat.
Spas: If you are in need of relaxation, spas are a nice way to unwind and reconnect. There are many spas in the area, including at the casinos, but if you’re looking for one closer with more of a vacation feel, check out Saybrook Point Inn, Spa and Marina. Their spa is a technology free zone, and from the moment you walk in, your shoulders will relax and you’ll forget all your troubles. There’s even an indoor hot tub you can use, and in the summer the shoreline is a beautiful place to walk or bike.
