As the weather begins to put a chill in the air and fall is in full swing, it is also time for ice hockey season. One of the great advantages of living so close to an event arena is that it offers a professional ice hockey team playing in the American Hockey League: The Bridgeport Sound Tigers. I thought going to watch a live game with the whole family would lend itself to a fun day!

It just so happened that I was celebrating my birthday on the day we decided to go see a Sound Tigers game at Webster Bank Arena. I will admit, I may not have been excited for the game but as we entered the arena, immediately both of my daughters got super excited once inside. I think in part because it was different than our normal Sunday routine.

As I glammed with my “Birthday Girl” button on my shirt, my oldest daughter was glued to the action. The loud music in the background had both of my daughters dancing in their seats as all of us got pumped for the Sound Tigers’ entrance onto the ice. The game was full of action between the two teams, and with the fast pace nature of the sport, my youngest daughter tried to keep up following the puck looking back and forth across the ice.

My oldest daughter got so excited when the Sound Tiger Mascot came near our seats. She was able to meet him and take a picture. She was smiling cheek to cheek! Then one of the cameramen was passing by us and we all got to wave as a family and see ourselves on the jumbotron screen.

As the first period ended it was time for the t-shirt toss. Our kids and I made every effort to wave and luckily caught a Sound Tigers t-shirt. Though the shirt was a large adult size, that did not stop my oldest daughter from putting the shirt right over her sweatshirt and being proud to wear it. Our evening concluded with our family having dinner at the game right in our seats, as there were plenty of options for food and drinks.

Our evening at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers was a win for our family and for the team. It was so fun to enjoy watching a sport together and to see my daughters get super into the experience. Neither of them wanted to leave when the game was over and the whole walk to the car it was, “When can we go back to another game?” Overall, it was a personal experience for us and created tons of smiles and laughs.
