Fun Ways to Share Your Photos!

These days, segments of our lives aren’t captured in blocks of 24 exposures on a roll of film as they were when I was a child. They are more often captured in blocks of hundreds (or in my case, thousands) of photos. We live in an age where we photograph everything from our morning coffee to our pets napping. Being able to capture digital images on our smart phones, point-and-shoot cameras, Go Pros, DSLR’s, ipads, etc., simply make the act of over-photographing too easy.

At the writing of this post, I’ve taken exactly 10,437 photos on my iPhone since my daughter was born…less than nine months ago. And that doesn’t include the photos taken on my Canon Powershot…or my Canon Rebel. Oops. Yes, I admit, I have a picture-taking addiction. This has been the case for as long as I can remember, I embrace the addiction wholeheartedly!

As it is nearly impossible to wrangle this obscene number of pictures, I’ve found a few ways to at least share and print a few of my favorites. I’d be devastated if all the photos of my daughter ended up meeting the same fate as my digital college photos – buried on external hard drives, seemingly lost forever in some sort of technological time capsule. Sigh.

So, in case you take a million photos of your kids and you need some help wrangling all of those photos, too, here are a few of my favorite ways to share and enjoy pictures.

iCloud Photo Sharing: I discovered photo streams through iCloud Photo Sharing about two years ago, and I have been obsessed with them ever since.  It not only is an excellent way for me and my husband to quickly and easily share photos of our daughter with family members, but when I am away from her, others can share photos of her with me, too!  On the days that my sister watches her while I am at work, she uploads pictures (and videos!) of their fun adventures.  I can view and comment on them whenever I get a free moment, which is the perfect way to feel connected to her while we are apart for the day.  So go ahead, create some photo streams and invite grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, friends, and anyone else you can think of to enjoy your photos, too!  They will love it, I promise!

Chatbooks: When I saw an app called Chatbooks featured on an Instagram feed about a month before my daughter was born, I knew I had come across something fantastic. You can create a subscription on your Chatbooks account using Instagram and a specific a hashtag. Once you post sixty photos using that hashtag, Chatbooks automatically creates a printed book for you. It’s genius! I love opening my mailbox and finding one of the books waiting for me. Since I created a special hashtag for my daughter, my books only include photos of her daily adventures, which are the perfect way for me to have tangible photos to look back on and at only $8 each (including shipping!), they make excellent gifts!

Wifi-card or Wifi-camera: For the first few months of my daughter’s life, I had to connect my Canon Rebel to my computer in order to upload her photos. As a mom with a newborn, I do NOT have time for that! Knowing that I could not be the only person who was struggling with this inconvenience, I did some research and found wifi-capable memory cards. Duh, Caitlin! Through the magic of the wifi-card and your smart phone, you can connect them via wifi and save the step of uploading the photos on your computer when you want to share/print them. I also purchased (actually my awesome husband purchased for me – thanks honey!) an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera, a Canon Powershot, equipped with wifi, which can connect to my smart phone, as well. I would highly encourage you to look into one (or both) or these options if you enjoy taking photos on a device a bit fancier than your phone.

I am sure there are a plethora of other great ways to share photos, feel free to post them in the comments!
