The 2017 Summer Whine Down

0

whineHave you ever seen the commercial of the father back to school shopping with his children? He’s prancing through the aisles and the kids are walking slowly behind him with their heads down and frowning. All the while the song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” plays in the background? I’ve been thinking about that commercial a lot lately. It’s August and we are in the last month of summer vacation. My daughter is going into the 3rd grade (gasp!) and my son is starting pre-school. Back in June I was ready for the school year to be over. I was tired of the strict sport schedule and fighting over homework. Now, I feel we are all ready for a little more structure.

My kids seem to think it’s their chosen profession to whine about everything. This summer has been no different. While we’ve had fun staying up late and going away on vacation the endless amount of whining has taken it’s toll. I’m sure a lot of you know exactly what I mean. Things you didn’t even think warranted a complaint somehow are catastrophic events in your childs’ world. I’ll give you a few examples of what my children chose to whine about this summer. This is in NO way a comprehensive list.

It’s too hot to go outside…

The pool is too cold…

There is nothing on TV…

Our wifi stinks…

Why is it raining?…

I don’t want to eat outside

I need more water for the water table…(It’s completely full)

I don’t want to go for a walk…

The fireworks scare me I can’t go to sleep…

I don’t want to sit in the stroller…

I HATE bugs….

Why can’t we just stay home today?…

Why can’t we do something fun?…

No I don’t want to push you on the swing!…

She stole my goldfish!…

I’m SO hungry…

And of course the inevitable – I’m bored!

No wonder that father was prancing through the aisles. While I’ve enjoyed having my two little ones home with me and with each other – I have a whine of my own….

When is the first day of school?…

What did your kids whine about this summer?
