Paper. Scissors. Glue. is a new monthly list on Fairfield County Mom’s Blog. Every month we’ll suggest some fun crafts to do with your kids. There will be four categories of age-appropriate crafts for you to choose from, all of which can be modified for older or smaller hands. So, get out your paper, scissors and glue and have some fun this August!
Toddler (under 2)
- Celebrate this last month of really hot weather but making Handprint Ice Cream Cones.
- Is your child scared of the severe thunderstorms we have this time of year? Focus on what happens AFTER they are over with some Comb Rainbow Painting.
- Make these Styrofoam Cup Crabs to play with long after beach days are gone.
Preschool (3-4)
- Celebrate Watermelon Day on August 3 with these fun and adorable Puffy Paint Watermelons.
- Learn about the sun and how it effects the earth with this Dangling Sun Mobile.
- It’s never too early to be prepared for preschool with these colorful Counting Sticks.
Early Elementary (5-7)
- Celebrate World Helicopter Day on August 21 by getting your scissors, paint and imagination out to make these Egg Carton Mini Copters. The sky is the limit.
- Recycle some of your bottles to make these Water Bottle Flowers.
- Have the kids help you prepare for their forthcoming packed lunches by decorating their own lunch bags: Apple-printed lunch bag.
Late Elementary (8-10)
- Who could resist these Lady Bug Bottle Caps? Keep them and put them in your garden for next year!
- Too hot? Cool yourself by making these Summer Paper Fans.
- Have your kids make these QR Code Kids to help them to get ready to meet new kids at school.
Remember, as always, kids develop the skills to do these projects at different rates, so please choose what best fits your child – not the recommended ages for each craft. And remember to have fun (and that mess is okay!)
