A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: December 2017

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! The holiday season is officially in full swing and we are knee deep in holiday music and gift shopping! Here is a list of family fun events to enjoy this month. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

Bridgeport

  • Saturdays and Sundays :: Get in the holiday spirit and join Frosty and Santa for breakfast at the Beardsley Zoo. Reservations and pre-payment are required. Dates include December 9-10, 16-17, and 23.
  • Saturdays and Sundays :: Bring the whole family to see a performance of The Christmas Elf at the Downtown Cabaret Children’s Theatre. Dates include December 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23, and 27-28.
  • Saturday, November 11 – Sunday, December 24 :: Visit Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops. 1 free photo and frame per family, carousel, free crafts, and more.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, December 2  :: Have breakfast with Santa at Hub and Spoke.
  • Saturday, December 2 and Saturday, December 16 :: Catch a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game for Star Wars night or Santa Storm night.
  • Saturday, December 9 – Sunday, December 10 :: Watch the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker at The Klein Memorial Auditorium.

Danbury 

  • All Month :: Enjoy a sensory friendly environment at AMC. Movies for this month include Coco (Saturday, December 9), Wonder (Tuesday, December 12), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Saturday, December 23 and Tuesday, December 26).
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Fairfield

  • Friday, December 1 – Sunday, January 7 :: Watch model trains wind around an enchanting display full of holiday spirit and elaborate scenery at Fairfield Museum and History Center’s 10th Annual Holiday Express Train Show.
  • Friday, December 1 :: Bundle up for the Fairfield Christmas Tree Lighting.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Shop, eat, and enjoy a Sunday at the PopShop Holiday Market.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Thursday, December 7 :: Stroll through Fairfield and get your holiday shopping done at local businesses as part of the 5th Annual Fairfield Holiday Shop & Stroll. Participating shops will stay open late and offer an assortment of hors d’oeuvres and seasonal refreshments. Traveling carolers and musicians from local schools will fill the air with holiday cheer and local restaurants will be offering dinner or drink specials.
  • Friday, December 8 :: Join the Fairfield University Bookstore for Children’s Storytime with Downtown Cabaret Theatre’s Christmas Elf. Meet Elvis and Twizzle from The Christmas Elf in costume. They’ll be reading two Elf stories and acting out a scene from the show.
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Join the Fairfield University Bookstore for their Holiday Open House. There will be music, story time, goodie bags, prizes, snacks, and more!
  • Saturday, December 9 – Sunday, December 10 :: Visit Santa’s House.

Greenwich

Monroe

New Canaan

  • Friday, December 1 – Saturday, December 2 :: Stroll through Downtown New Canaan while it is transformed into something out of a Dickens’s story book for Holiday Stroll. Events include a tree lighting, carol singing, live entertainment, extended shop hours, photos with Santa, a Gingerbread House Tour, and more.
  • Saturday, December 16 :: Join the New Canaan Nature Center for their Winter Wonderland. Festivities include visits with Santa, horse-drawn wagon rides, holiday trains, campfire with chestnuts and marshmallows roasting, annual gingerbread house creation contest, caroling with the Bojanglers of CT, and more!

Newtown

  • Saturday, December 2 :: Kick off the holiday season with Sandy Hook Village’s Annual Tree Lighting.

Norwalk

  • Saturdays and Sundays :: Head over to the Maritime Aquarium to visit Santa in his fishing village. There will be two military vehicles open for exploration and photos. The “Go Fish!” exhibit will be transformed into Santa’s Fishing Village and guests will be able to take a photo with Santa Claus in his fishing boat. Dates include December 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Eat pancakes with Santa, the Norwalk Fire Department and the Norwalk Public Safety Cadets.
  • Monday, December 11 :: Enjoy an eclectic evening out of Broadway classics and songs from Telly Leung’s solo albums and more at Wall Street Theater.
  • Tuesday, December 12 :: Join Stew Leonard’s Norwalk store in celebrating Chanukah with its 26th annual menorah lighting celebration.
  • Sunday, December 31 :: End the year with a countdown to noon and special family fun at the Maritime Aquarium for “Noon” Year’s Eve.

Ridgefield

  • Friday, December 1 – Saturday, December 2 :: Enjoy Downtown Ridgefield’s 18th Annual Holiday Stroll. There will be horse-drawn carriages, musical performances, children’s shows, ice-sculpting, trunk shows, sales, and more!
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Watch a snowy cirque show, Snowkus Pocus, at the Ridgefield Playhouse. The show is for all ages.

Rowayton

  • Sunday, December 3 :: Visit Santa throughout Rowayton as he makes his arrival on his big red fire engine sleigh.

Shelton

  • Thursday, December 7 :: Create a Santa glass cookie plate with your child at The Giggling Pig.
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Go to The Giggling Pig’s Christmas Party for family-friendly fun, including holiday crafting and a Santa visit.

Southport

  • Friday, December 15 :: Enjoy a night of holiday caroling and family fun at the Pequot Library. Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, choirs, cookie decorating, crafts, and caroling around a bonfire. Free and open to the public.

Stamford

  • Saturdays and Sundays :: Receive a free photo with Santa (with a donation of nonperishable goods or unwrapped toy) at Designs By Lee. Dates include December 2-3 and 9-10.
  • Sunday, December 3 :: Watch and cheer for Santa Claus, Rudolph, Grinch, and starring guest rappeller Brian Cashman, GM of the New York Yankees, as they make their daredevil descent, twisting and flying from the top of one of Stamford’s tallest buildings, Landmark Square, at Heights & Lights.
  • Tuesday, December 5 – Wednesday, December 6 :: Go on an adventure with Paw Patrol Live! at The Palace.
  • Saturday, December 16 – Sunday, December 17 :: Start a holiday tradition with the entire family and see Connecticut Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker at The Palace.
  • Saturday, December 30 :: Relive the magic and sing your heart out to the soundtrack of Disney’s Frozen with a sing-a-long at The Palace.

Stratford

  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Trumbull

  • Friday, December 1 :: Bundle up for the Trumbull Annual Tree Lighting.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Gingerbread House. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, December 2 :: Lace up your running shoes for the 28th Annual Jingle Bell Run presented by the Nichols Improvement Association. Kids can run a 1/3 mile race in the Jingle Bell Jr. for free.
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Shop 20+ local vendors at Long Hill United Methodist Church for Holiday Happening.

Westport

Wilton

  • Friday, November 24 – Monday, January 15:: Bring your train lovers to the interactive Great Trains Holiday Exhibit at the Wilton Historical Society. Dressed for the holidays, the Wilton Historical Society’s historic 18th and 19th century buildings are transformed into a train-lovers delight with many different train layouts winding through tiny towns with a variety of different kinds of buildings, tunnels and two working Ferris Wheels! An expanded new Lego set up makes its debut this year. In a special train room for the youngest guests, there are buttons galore plus Thomas the Tank Engine and Brio for hands-on fun. 
  • Friday, December 8 – Sunday, December 10 :: Calling all Junie B. fans! Watch a hilarious and endearing tale based on the best-selling Junie B. book series at the Wilton Playshop, Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.
  • Saturday, December 9 :: Decorate a wreath with the whole family at Woodcock Nature Center’s Family Wreath Making Day.
  • Sunday, December 10 :: Listen to The Wilton Singers’ annual Holiday Sing.
