A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: September 2017

It’s hard to believe that the summer is coming to a close – it’s September! We love summer, but we also can’t wait to wear boots, eat and drink pumpkin everything, and go apple picking! Here is a list of family fun events to enjoy this month. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

Bridgeport

  • All Month :: Catch a Bridgeport Bluefish game and enjoy special activities all month long. This month’s activities include Irish Heritage Night on September 6, Star Wars Night and Fireworks Extravaganza and  on September 16, Kids Eat Cheap every Tuesday, Sunday Family Funday every Sunday, and more! Check here for the schedule and to purchase tickets.
  • All Month :: Find an adventure at Discovery Adventure Park. This month’s activities include End of Summer Bash on September 17.
  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, September 9 :: Fairfield residents can enjoy admission to the Beardsley Zoo for only $5.00 per person with ID. You will get to meet and greet local officials as well as business and civic leaders, your friends, and your neighbors. 

Danbury 

  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, September 9 and Saturday, September 23 :: Enjoy a movie in a sensory friendly environment at AMC. Shows will include Leap! on September 9 and Lego Ninjago on September 23.
  • Friday, September 15 – Sunday, September 17 :: Celebrate all things Irish at the Greater Danbury Irish Festival.

Fairfield

  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Greenwich

Monroe

New Canaan

  • Saturday, September 16 :: Celebrate the Fall Cider Season at New Canaan Nature Center for Cider Saturday. Enjoy an early autumn afternoon of family fun with cider press demonstrations, Old Fashioned Games, a pollination game, Honey Bee Hive Tours, a pumpkin scavenger hunt, seasonal harvest craft for kids, and even bake your own apple! 

Newtown

Norwalk

  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Friday, September 8 – Sunday, September 10 :: Head over to Veteran’s Memorial Park for three days of continuous family-friendly activities and entertainment at the 40th Annual Oyster Festival. Sunday is family day and each paid adult admission comes with one free children’s admission (under 12).
  • Saturday, September 16 :: Celebrate Worldwide Day of Play at Stepping Stones Museum initiated by Nickelodeon. This is a full day dedicated to inspiring kids and families across the globe to lead a more active and healthy  lifestyle.
  • Saturday, September 16 :: Head over to the Maritime Aquarium for Salute Norwalk Day. There will be free admission for Norwalk residents with proof of residency. There will  be extra fun for all visitors including face painting, sing-alongs, and more! 

Ridgefield

  • Sunday, September 24 :: Watch the Great Pumpkin Weigh Off at Ballard Park while also enjoying music, kids activities, pumpkin decorating contest, exhibitors, shopping and farm stands!

Shelton

  • Thursday, September 14 :: Grab dinner from a food truck and enjoy live music, a car show, local vendors, and kids’ activities at Food Trucks in the Valley.

Stamford

  • Saturday, September 16 – Sunday, September 17 :: Shop craft and artisan boutiques at Arts & Crafts on Bedford. Don’t miss the Imagination Station with “hands on” activities for kids including farm animals, chalk the walk, face painting, crafts and more!

Stratford

  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, September 23 :: Touch-A-Truck with St. James School. There will be over 60 amazing trucks on display, including swat vehicles, bucket trucks, garbage trucks, fire, rescue, military and more! The first hour will be quiet for those with young children and those with sensory sensitivities.

Trumbull

  • Saturday, September 2 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a Pencil Box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Friday, September 8 – Saturday, September 9 :: Spend time outdoors at Trumbull’s Fall Festival Weekend. The festival will have rides, games, food trucks, amusements, beer tent, live music and fireworks. The fireworks display will begin approximately 8:15 PM on Saturday.
  • Sunday, September 10 :: Peruse over 30 juried crafters, 20 fine artists, authors, Community booths, food trucks and food vendors, and enjoy local entertainment at the 39th Annual Trumbull Arts Festival. All activities are free of charge.
  • Saturday, September 16 :: Join LIVFREE for a movie night to bring the community together to bring awareness to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. They will be showing Disney’s Moana and will have a variety of activities from 4:30PM to 7PM including games and food trucks. The movie starts at 7PM. 
  • Saturday, September 23 :: Trumbull residents can enjoy admission to the Beardsley Zoo for only $5.00 per person with ID. You will get to meet and greet local officials as well as business and civic leaders, your friends, and your neighbors. 
  • Thursday, September 28 :: Join Nichols Improvement Association for a post Farmers’ Market Music Under the Stars featuring Trumbull native Bobby Wheeler. Free admission and family friendly!

Westport

  • Thursday, September 7 :: Get your car seat checked or learn how to install a new car seat for free at the Westport Police Department for Car Seat Safety Day. Stop by the department or call (203) 341-6000 to book a free appointment.
  • Saturday, September 9 :: Experience a Slice of Saugatuck for the 56th annual food tasting and retail experience including family fun and live music.

Just Outside of FC – Valhalla, NY

  • Sunday, September 24 :: Join the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Hudson Valley for the 3rd Annual Dylan J. Hoffman Memorial Walk and Family Fun Day. The walk will be a leisurely stroll around the campus of the Westchester Medical Center (approximately a 1.2 mile lap) and then enjoy fun family activities!
