A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: June 2017

June brings the end of a school year, swimming, summer nights spent out by a fire pit, farmers’ markets, and lots of playground time. Here is a list of fun family events to keep the fun going all month long. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

Bridgeport

  • June :: Watch a Bridgeport Bluefish game and attend special events. Every Sunday is Family Funday and kids eat cheap every Tuesday. See other events throughout the month here.
  • Friday, June 2 – Sunday, June 4 :: Enjoy authentic Greek food and pastries, shop in the marketplace, listen to live music and dance at the Greek Festival and Fair-Olympiad 2017.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Find a sitter and indulge at Wild Wine, Beer and Food Safari 2017 at the Beardsley Zoo.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Calling all WWE fans! Catch WWE Live at Webster Bank Aerna.
  • Saturday, June 3 & Saturday, June 10 :: Find an adventure at Discovery Adventure Park. There is a magic pebble hunt on June 3 (magic glowing pebbles will be hidden throughout the park) and Frisbee Day on June 10 (first 100 climbers will receive a free Frisbee and the original Frisbee Pie Company will be giving out free Mini Pies).
  • Saturday, June 17 :: Partake in the annual Wing Ding Parade at Beardsley Zoo. You choose your means of transportation and prizes will be awarded for best costume. Activities include fun for the whole family with zoo admission, face painting, balloon animals, music, and food. Admission is free.
  • Sunday, June 18 :: Dads and granddads can enjoy free admission to the Beardsley Zoo with minimum one paying guest.
  • Saturday, June 24 :: Celebrate Barnumpalooza with an all-day, family friendly festival with food trucks, live music, and carnival rides for kids at Seaside Park. The night will end with a fireworks show. Admission is free. 
  • Sunday, June 25 :: Celebrate and support the city of Bridgeport and its surrounding communities at the Great Street Parade. The parade will feature firetrucks, bands, floats, clowns, and more.

Danbury 

  • Thursday, June 1 – Saturday, June 11 :: Kick off fair season at the Annual Danbury City Fair.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Sunday, June 4 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a family hike at Bear Mountain Reservation.
  • Friday, June 9 – Sunday, June 11 :: Experience Greek at the Annual Greek Festival at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.

Fairfield

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a leisurely journey through the Connecticut Audobon Society’s magnificent Larsen Sanctuary. The varied terrain will be easy to moderate in difficulty.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Meet Wonder Woman at the Fairfield University Bookstore.
  • Sunday, June 4 :: Shop local at PopShop Market at The Warehouse at Fairfield Theatre Company. The event includes a curated vendor roster of antique and repurposed furniture, artwork, jewelry, and apparel by local artists, designers, and merchants, plus delicious food from the hottest food trucks and cocktails from a full bar.
  • Thursday, June 8 :: Meet the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Sarah Dessen, author of ‘Once and For All’ at the Fairfield University Bookstore. The bookstore will be decorated like a wedding and there will be a violinist, confetti, and much more!
  • Saturday, June 10 :: Touch-a-truck at Fairfield Warde High School as part of the Barnum Festival.
  • Sunday, June 11 :: Shop a collection of vendors and popular food trucks at Fairfield Summer Market on the Green. As a part of the market, everyone can participate in a Red Wagon Parade with the theme “I LOVE FAIRFIELD”…decorate your wagon to reflect what you love about Fairfield and prizes will be awarded for creativity.

Georgetown

  • Sunday, June 11 :: Spend the day outdoors at Georgetown Day with live music, delicious international foods, a chili cook-off, beer tent, dunking booth, and artisans and vendors selling beautiful arts, crafts, clothing and jewelry.

Greenwich

  • Sunday, June 4 :: Touch-a-truck at Greenwich Town Hall.
  • Sunday, June 11 :: Learn about numbers through nature at Audubon Center in Greenwich’s Family Play Date: Numbers in Nature.
  • Saturday, June 17 :: Learn about plants and wildlife at Audubon Center in Greenwich’s Family Pond Exploration. Attendees will use nets, buckets and other tools to discover an entire world just below the surface at the Georgie Pond’s teaching pavilion.
  • Saturday, June 10 :: Enjoy free admission to Greenwich Historical Society, including a puppet performance, as part of Connecticut Open House Day.

Monroe

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a free hike at Webb Mountain Park. Free event, but pre-registration is recommended.
  • Sunday, June 4 :: Come together as a community to celebrate activity and fitness at the 25th Annual Spring for Monroe.
  • Saturday, June 17 – Sunday, June 18 :: Eat strawberry shortcake, shop local artists and exhibitors, play games, and listen to live entertainment at the 46th Annual Strawberry Festival Craft Show & Fine Arts at Monroe Congregational Church.

New Canaan

  • Sunday, June 4 :: Attend an ice cream social at the New Canaan Historical Society. There will be fun activities for all ages!
  • Saturday, June 24 – Sunday, June 25 :: Head over to New Canaan Nature Center for the Great American Campout. It will be an evening of fun, camp tunes, a night hike, and lots of adventure camping in New Canaan’s favorite backyard.

Newtown

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Check out a fun family-focused festival and pet adoption day with fun activities for both adults and kids including face painting, games, crafts, vendors, food trucks and live music at the 3rd Annual Catherine’s Butterfly Party at Fairfield Hills Campus.
  • Saturday, June 11 :: Grab some popcorn and enjoy a free 7pm movie showing at Edmond Town Hall.
  • Saturday, June 17 :: Calling all foodies! Enjoy a day at Newtown Food Truck Festival. There will be 20+ food trucks, live music, craft beer, tag sale, kids activities, and handmade artisans. Admission is free.

Norwalk

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a family friendly hike at Oak Hills Park Nature Trail.
  • Saturday, June 10 :: Help your kids learn how to make balanced food choices through fun and engaging activities for Kids Food Festival at Stepping Stones Museum.
  • Friday, June 16 :: Listen to a compelling reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar at Storybook Pajama Party at Stepping Stones Museum. Other activities include meet the storybook characters, hands-on themed activities for children of every age, and an end-of-night musical parade.
  • Sunday, June 18 :: Take advantage of free admission for one caregiver on Father’s Day at Stepping Stones Museum.

Ridgefield

Shelton

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Enjoy Summer Festival hosted by Relay for Life of Naugatuck Valley. Family fun for everyone, including live bands, karaoke, touch-a-truck, food trucks, dunk tank, face painters, reptile petting zoo, a midnight movie, and more.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a hike on Trails of the Shelton Greenway
  • Saturday, June 10 – Sunday, June 11 :: Celebrate art, music, food, and craft for Soupstock at Veterans Memorial Park. Kids 12 and under are free.
  • Saturday, June 17 :: Send dad and the kids to The Giggling Pig for a Father Child Build & Event.

Stamford

Stratford

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Trumbull

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Have fun at Ryan’s Rebels Kids Fishing Derby at Twin Brooks Park. Bring your fishing pole and they will provide everything else, there is a suggested donation per participant. This is a catch-and-release fishing derby. All proceeds from this event go directly toward helping children and families battling neuroblastoma and other pediatric cancers.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a wooden tic-tac-toe game. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a hike of the Pequonnock River Valley Trail.
  • Sunday, June 4 :: Touch a truck at Bright Horizons at Trumbull. This is a free event for the whole family.
  • Saturday, June 10 :: Watch a free family movie night {Shrek} at the Nichols Improvement Association
  • Sunday, June 11 :: Join the Trumbull Health Department for Family Fun Day at Twin Brooks Park. Open to all ages and fitness levels, fun activities for the whole family, hands on activities include touch-a-truck, exercise activities for children, nature crafts, temporary tattoos, face painting, and more, plus other activities such as blood pressure screenings and one-on-one nutrition advice.

Weston

  • Saturday, June 10 :: Celebrate the annual opening day of Lachat Town Farm. Enjoy refreshments in the barn, take a stroller through the field and listen to live music, tour the 1700’s farmhouse, and have some fun on a pony ride.

Westport

  • Saturday, June 3 :: Celebrate Connecticut Trails Weekend with a variety of events at Sherwood Island State Park.
  • Thursday, June 8 :: Join FCMB for a spa night out at Nefaire Spa. Get your tickets in advance. Enjoy music, light snacks, and drinks, then get a special cosmetic session to make your very own facial scrub and top the night off with a 15 minute discovery facial!
  • Sunday, June 18 :: Spend an afternoon on the water with family or friends in search of egrets, osprey, ducks, and much more at Earthplace for a group canoe paddle
  • Thursday, June 22 :: Join FCMB for a spa night out at Nefaire Spa. Get your tickets in advance. Enjoy music, light snacks, and drinks, then get a special cosmetic session to make your very own facial scrub and top the night off with a 15 minute discovery facial!

Wilton

  • Saturday, June 10 :: Get a sitter and swing your partner by the arm, do-si-do at Ambler Farm’s Sunset Hoedown. Enjoy a night out with BBQ catered by Barcelona, signature drinks, square dancing, hayrides, and s’mores!
