A Mom’s Guide to Fairfield County :: July 2017

July means that summer is in full swing, kids are on summer vacation, and it’s time to take full advantage of all that Fairfield County has to offer! Here is a list of family fun events to enjoy this month. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, so if you have suggestions or any great events that we’ve missed, please leave a comment to let us know!

Bethel

  • Thursday, July 20 :: Play with FCMB at Sky Zone Bethel (ages 5-10). We will have access to jump on their main trampoline court, Foam Zone, and SkySlam. Chidren will cool down after with water, chips, and pizza! Get tickets here.

Bridgeport

  • All Month :: Catch a Bridgeport Bluefish game and enjoy special activities all month long. This month’s activities include fireworks extravaganza on July 3, Independence Day BBQ on July 4, Sunday Family Funday every Sunday, and more! Check here for the schedule and to purchase tickets.
  • All Month :: Find an adventure at Discovery Adventure Park. There are Glow in the Park Nights on July 2 and July 7, Full Moon Climb on July 9, Lemur Mania on July 10, National Ice cream Day on July 16, and 5th Anniversary Luau on July 27.
  • Saturday, July 1 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a bug house. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Tuesday, July 4 :: Go on a red, white, and blue animal scavenger hunt at the Beardsley Zoo.

Danbury 

  • Saturday, July 1 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a bug house. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Saturday, July 8 :: Enjoy Despicable Me 3 in a sensory friendly environment at AMC. 

Darien

  • Saturday, July 8 :: Enjoy a day of fun for the whole family at the Annual RCA Rowayton River Ramble with activities for kids and adults alike. The fun includes a petting zoo, pony rides, bouncy castle, giant water slide, face painting, tattoos, hair tinseling, a dunk tank, vendors, food, and more!

Fairfield

  • All Month :: July 1-29 Waldo, the iconic book character, will be hiding in 25 downtown businesses for a fun summertime activity for kids and families. Pick up your Waldo passport at the Fairfield University Bookstore – your Waldo Headquarters! When you spot Waldo at any of the businesses listed, collect a store stamp/signature. July 1 is the kick-off event and is hosted by Saugatuck Sweets (28 Reef Road, 12-1 PM), meet Waldo and receive a free soft service ice cream. On July 29, the Fairfield University Bookstore will host a Waldo Shindig with activities plus a chance to meet Waldo. Participants who’ve collected at least 20 or more store stamps/signatures will be eligible to win some terrific Waldo books and prizes!
  • Saturday, July 1 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a bug house. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Thursdays (July 13, July 20, July 27) :: Fore! Bring your junior golfers (ages 7-13, must have their own equipment and show proper golf etiquette) to Carl Dickman Par 3 for free open play.
  • Saturday, July 22 :: Shop the Annual Sidewalk Sale & Street Fair presented by The Town of Fairfield and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.
  • Saturday, July 22 :: Play with FCMB at Ole Soccer (ages 2-8). We will play for 45 minutes on the field, where one of their great Coaches will entertain your children. After soccer, we will take the children to their Jungle Gym where they can play for another 45 minutes. The play date will conclude with pizza, water, and juice for the kids! Get tickets here.

Greenwich

  • Sunday, July 9 :: Go on an outdoor storytelling adventure with Audubon Greenwich. Recommended for ages 1-6.
  • Thursday, July 13 :: Enjoy a family fire and brushcraft fun with Audubon Greenwich. Learn the tricks of building a safe fire, survival skills, and s’mores creation.
  • Sunday, July 16 :: Head over to Bruce Museum for a groovy, good time at Warhol Summer Bash Family Day. Performance is recommended for ages 2-8 and seating is limited.
  • Thursday, July 20 :: If you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant and have a BMI greater than 30, learn how to promote a healthy pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby as part of the Pregnancy, Exercise, and Nutrition Initiative (PENI) at Greenwich Hospital. You will meet a high risk Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist/Perinatologist, learn essential information from a registered dietitian, and join (or observe) in some light resistance training exercise. 
  • Sunday, July 23 :: Cool off inside and under the shade of trees while you learn how local wildlife are adapted to deal with the summer heat with Audubon Greenwich. Recommended for ages 2-6.

Monroe

New Canaan

  • Thursdays – Sundays :: Bring your budding theatre-goers to the Sumemr Theatre of New Canaan. In July, performances of Singin’ in the Rain runs Thursday through Sunday and The Adentures of Robin Hood and The Dancing Princesses runs Saturdays and Sundays.   • Saturday, July 8 :: Enjoy the magic of the midsummer night at New Canaan Nature Center while you search for woodland creatures and other enchanted mysteries of the evening at Night of 1,000 Fireflies. The program includes a guided night hike through the Nature Center grounds and some refreshing lemonade to stay cool on a hot summer night. The evening will be wrapped up with the opportunity to delight in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Nature Center’s meadows aglow with the soft light of 1,000+ fireflies. Advanced registration required and good for all ages.
  • Tuesday, July 4 :: Celebrate the Fourth of July at Waveny Park with their 37th Annual Family Fourth of July Celebration.
  • Thursday, July 27 :: Play with FCMB at Waveny Park for a casual meetup (all ages welcome). We will hang out in the shade (to the right of the Waveny House) for some simple fun summer crafts. Palmer’s Darien will be providing mini sandwiches, rainbow fruit skewers, and sugar cookies to help us beat the heat! Be sure to bring a picnic blanket! Get tickets here.
  • Friday, July 28 :: Enjoy a family fun night at the New Canaan Nature Center for Reptiles of the World. Learn all about some of the oldest living animals on the planet. The program is perfect for all ages and advanced registration is required.

Newtown

Norwalk

  • Saturday, July 1 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a bug house. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Thursday, July 6 :: Enjoy free admission and activities at Stepping Stones Museum from 5-8pm.
  • Wednesday, July 12 :: Play with FCMB at Pump It Up of Norwalk (ages 2-8, must be at least 34 inches tall). Children will enjoy 1 hour and 30 minutes in their arenas to run, play, and jump on giant inflatables. There will be music, games and obstacle courses. Pizza, lemonade, fruit punch and water will be served for lunch! Get tickets here.

Ridgefield

  • Saturday, July 22 :: Spend your Saturday in Ridgefield with sidewalk sales, games, a variety of delicious food, live music, fun activities, and more for Summerfest.

Shelton

Southport

  • Saturday, July 8 :: Sing along with New Paradigm Theatre’s Peter Pan cast,  go on a scavenger hunt, have a tea party with Tinkerbell, be creative with arts and crafts, and partake in a costume parade at the Pirate and Pixie Party with New Paradigm Theatre at the Pequot Library.
  • Friday, July 21 – Tuesday, July 25 :: Find literary treasures (plus CDs, DVDs, records, etc.) at Pequot Library’s Summary Book Sale.

Stamford

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays :: Beat the heat every Tuesday and Wednesday and enjoy a free movie at Bowtie Cinemas as part of their Summer Kids Series 2017. The series runs from June 20 to August 16.
  • Sunday, July 16 :: Enjoy outdoor yoga for the whole family, activities, conscious vendors, healing arts, live music, food, and beer at MindFull Gathering.
  • Sunday, July 16 :: Celebrate National Hot Dog Day at the Stamford Musem and Nature Center. 

Stratford

  • Saturday, July 1 :: Bring your kids to Home Depot to build a bug house. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Trumbull

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays :: Beat the heat every Tuesday and Wednesday and enjoy a free movie at Bowtie Cinemas as part of their Summer Kids Series 2017. The series runs from June 20 to August 16.

  • Saturday, July 15 :: Listen to an Eric Carle book and create an animal or insect collage in the style of Eric Carle at the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center. For ages 6-10 (parents welcome to stay).
  • Sunday, July 23 :: Touch-a-truck at Bright Horizons at Trumbull.

Westport

  • Wednesdays :: Bring the family to Levitt Pavillion for a free children’s concert as part of the Melissa & Doug® Children’s Series.
  • Saturday, July 15 :: Enjoy a day packed with family fun at Wakeman Town Farm’s Family Fun Day. There will be an array of farmyard games, including sack races, balloon toss, and tug-of-war, as well as face-painting, pickle-making, birdhouse-decorating, crafts, and animal encounters. Guests will enjoy music by a special School of Rock Band. Grilled burgers, dogs and sausages will be available for purchase at the Hoe Down Grill, generously donated by Fresh Market in Westport. Finally, guests will enjoy ice cream and popcorn courtesy of our friends at Saugatuck Sweets and Popcorn Indiana. All proceeds from this family FUNraiser will benefit the programs and upkeep of YOUR Town Farm, which is a nonprofit organization on a mission to promote organic farming, sustainability, and community. The fee for the event is $5 kids, $10 adults, with select food/drink and activities available for purchase.
  • Saturday, July 15 ::  Spend an afternoon on the water with family or friends in search of egrets, osprey, ducks, and much more at Earthplace for a group canoe paddle
  • Friday, July 21 ::  Enjoy a family Friday night out complete with guided night walks, visits from nocturnal and animals, and more at Earthplace for a Family Campfire

Just outside of FC – White Plains

  • Wednesday, July 19 :: Attend a free workshop to learn how to deal with behavioral issues of your 2-7 year olds with new strategies for managing your children’s behavior. The workshop will be held at the Schwartzberg Training Center at the offices of Cognitive Behavioral Consultants (CBC).
