Summer 2023: Summer Reading Activities and Book Sales

Books lined up on tables at a book sale.Summer is here, and it’s a great time to relax and escape into the world of a novel. Encourage the whole family to read and challenge themselves this summer by following these Fairfield County library summer reading programs and activities. Also, check out local book sales and author visits with your family. Happy reading!

GREENWICH

Check out the Greenwich Public Library website that lists the 2023 summer reading recommend book lists and activities. The 2023 theme is “All Together Now” from June 12 to August 12. Register online for a reading program (there is a Pre-Reader Program and a K-6 Program) and log your reading activity to earn a prize. You can also sign up to receive book recommendations. Check out all the branch location websites in Greenwich and the event calendars for special summer reading events.

DARIEN

The Darien Library has a summer reading program from June 20 to August 13. You can subscribe online for more information. The summer reading program is for kids, teens, and adults.

NEW CANAAN

The New Canaan Library’s 2023 summer reading program, “Bugged About Books,” is nature-themed and includes reading, hands-on activities, and reading activities. The New Canaan Library’s summer reading program also has a reading program for teens (the summer READtreat!) along with various other programs and events listed on their website.

WESTPORT

The Westport Library 2023 summer reading program is entitled “Imagine Your Summer 2023.” You can keep track of your reading online, and for every 100 minutes read, you can decorate a sun that will be put on display. For every 1000 minutes read, you can choose a free book.

STAMFORD

The Kid’s Summer Learning Club at Ferguson Library in Stamford extends from June 10 through August 31. There is a link on the website to sign up online to track your reading. A Teen Summer Learning Club is also for older children (grades 6 through 12).

RIDGEFIELD 

Check out “All Together Now: Summer 2023” on the Ridgefield Library website, where registration runs from June 1 to August 26. This summer reading program includes a raffle (where a child can win a ride to school on a firetruck), plus prizes awarded to older children and teens.  

FAIRFIELD 

Fairfield Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Find Your Voice,” includes opportunities to read, write reviews, track your reading, and earn prizes. Find out about reading events and other activities on the website link above.

Newtown: The Annual C.H. Booth Book Sale will be held at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane, Newtown, CT 06470. It begins Friday, July 7, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Check out the website for further dates, tickets, and pricing information. 

Westport: The Westport Library has information about book sales and donations. Book sales are held year-round at the Westport Book Shop, located at 23 Jesup Road, and you can visit their online shop.

Southport: Pequot Library’s Annual Summer Book Sale is held at the Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Avenue, on July 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and July 22-25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free and there are over 100,000 items in over 60 categories. Area authors will be there for signings during the sale.

Brookfield: Brookfield Library Annual Used Book Sale is located at the Brookfield City Hall Senior Center. This year, the book sale will be from September 14 through September 16. Check the website for times and further information.

Stamford: Stamford’s Friends of Ferguson Library holds the only independent bookstore in Stamford and sells used books at the Main Library and the Harry Bennett Branch.
