FCMB Holiday Shows 2015

My children are already avid theater goers, and Fairfield County offers plenty of live theater and dance performances that are geared right towards their ages. If you don’t feel like braving the Big Apple during the holiday season or want an experience different than anything with the word “LIVE” or “On Ice” in the title, this list is for you.

Nutcracker, The New England Ballet Company

The New England Ballet Company (NEBC) offers several versions of this holiday classic. This year my daughter and I plan to attend the full version at the Klein in Bridgeport, CT. This version will be running December 19 at both 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and December 20, 2015 at 1 p.m. If you are not sure if your child is old enough to sit through the entire ballet, NEBC also performs The Nutcracker Suite at the Bijou Theater, Bridgeport, CT on December 13, 2015 at 3 p.m. My daughter and I have enjoyed their Sugar Plum Party for the past two years which is traditionally held the weekend after Thanksgiving. For tickets to the Nutcracker or Nutcracker Suite, visit the online box office (prices vary depending on seats) on their website: http://www.newenglandballet.org/.

A Christmas Carol, Downtown Cabaret Theater

A new take on theclassic tale, this child specific show is running from November 21 – December 27, 2015 at the Downtown Cabaret Theater in Bridgeport, CT. The children shows run 75 – 80 minutes long with a 10 minute intermission with performances offered on Saturdays and Sundays. Make a day of it and book a table with family or friends, but don’t forget the snacks and drinks! For tickets ($23 for adults, $19 for kids), call the box office at 203-576-1636 or visit their website: http://dtcab.com/show/a-christmas-carol

Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas, Westport Country Playhouse

Recommended for ages 2 – 7, this festive and fun show will be presented on December 20, 2015 with shows at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. The show is approximately one hour in length and tickets are $20. For tickets, visit the link here.

Frosty, Quick Center for the Arts

On December 20, 2015, watch everybody’s favorite story come to life as Frosty the Snowman takes the stage in this brand new adventure. Tickets are $15 and the show is at 1 p.m. For tickets visit their website.

Feel like venturing outside of Fairfield County for a more Broadway-like experience? Treat the family to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical at the Bushnell in Hartford, CT. Performances run December 11, 2015 through December 14, 2015. Purchase tickets here.

Shannon
Shannon has lived in Fairfield County, CT for most of her life and currently lives in Monroe. She has a daughter L (September, 2008) and a son B (May, 2012). Shannon balances being a wife and mom with working 186 days out of the year as a special education teacher. Thank goodness for vacations, summer break, and snow days! You can be sure that she fills those days with as many amazing activities and outings that she can think of to make up for the time that she is at work. In a distant life, way before babies, Shannon was an aspiring actress and musician. You can sometimes still find her leading sing-a-longs with her guitar at the kids’ playgroups or at her daughter’s school.
