He’s back! Our elf Marshmallow has returned from the North Pole bringing with him his traditional small tokens of good cheer to get our family in the holiday spirit. I know that these little elves are the ones some mothers love to hate, but he gets a big thumbs up from me.
Our Marshmallow is a pretty casual fellow. Sometimes he gets into mischief and chooses exotic places as his morning resting spot, and other days (most work days), he’s pretty standard. He feels no need to keep up with the Buddys, Jingles, Jacks, and Snowflakes around town! He has one job and that is to keep us in a festive mood. Not only is he a nice reminder that Santa is watching, but he also offers a small moment of Christmas jolliness as we start our day each morning.
Is it tempting to get into the elf on the shelf frenzy? I confess that I found myself checking out Target’s new line of elf couture and almost bought Marshmallow a new reindeer. I quickly reminded myself that our house full of stuffed animals and toys is plenty for our dear elf!
My family does own and loves the Elf on the Shelf movie, An Elf’s Story . It is just the right length, has some catchy tunes, and is appealing to both my six and two year old. We have already watched it four times since Thanksgiving and I have no problem admitting that I find it entertaining, too. My daughter actually requested watching it upon Marshmallow’s return so he would feel welcomed by watching his friend Chippey on the big screen.
We all can use some Christmas magic and our elf brings just that! I love my children’s sweet reaction to the special things he does throughout the month of December. He really is Santa’s helper allowing us all (adults included) to believe just a little bit more.
Does your family have their own little elf? How does he or she help bring the Christmas joy?
