I am so basic. If you open my closet you are not going to find much color. It’s sad. Tons of black, grey, charcoal, heather grey, light grey, dark black, black black, you get it. Every winter I think, “Okay, I’m not going to spend money on clothes, I’ll get a few leggings, lose weight, then go on a $1,000 shopping spree in the spring!” And I know I’m not alone! I talk to so many friends who have the mom uniform of black yoga pants and an oversized tunic of sorts. Or just everything dark and boring. Let’s make a mom pact, THOU SHALL NOT ALWAYS WEAR BLACK AND BE BASIC!
Here is another confession. I haven’t owned a pair of proper boots in YEARS. I play out in the snow or shovel the driveway in sneakers! So lame, right? I have these boots, that don’t fit properly, they’re hideous, and they’ll be 6 years old this winter. Gross. Now do I DARE take time and spend money on me this winter? Yes, I’m doing it!
Here is my plan:
- I am going to get 2 pairs of jeans; one that I can wear with boots, and a pair that I can wear with flats or booties.
- A couple of tops that are NOT black (I have to dig deep for this one)!
- I am determined to get a light jacket of sorts because I see them on people and they look adorable.
- A couple of pairs of fun patterned leggings.
- A neutral pair of tall boots that I can wear with dark and light colors.
- Warm but CUTE waterproof-ish winter boots.
I am on a mission! I hit up a couple of stores and dug through my legging dealers stash (yes, I have a legging dealer!).
Good start, right? I keep telling myself, I must invest in myself. I MUST invest in ME! I have started this investment and I feel pretty confident that I can break my boring habit!
Who’s with me? I would love to hear some other ideas to break my basic clothing habits!
