A Day in the Life: Meet Liz Joy

1

Hi Everyone! I’m excited to join the amazing team here at Fairfield County Mom’s Blog! I became a reader of FCMB as soon as I learned I was pregnant, so being able to contribute and connect with the readership is such an honor. Since becoming a stay-at-home mom in July, I have committed myself to being the heart of my home, and I have never loved what I do more. Creating a house full of love and happiness is not only my job but the most important thing I have ever and will ever do, and I’m here to share how I do my best to achieve this with all of you.

Happy New Year! I hope all of you enjoyed celebrating all that 2013 brought to you and your hopes and dreams for 2014. While there is always room for improvement, this past New Year’s was like no other for me. We were lucky to be away from the cold in Jupiter, Florida, for the holidays. I had a few moments to myself at the beach to do some self-reflection and realized that I am genuinely content for the first time in my life. Since I can remember, every New Year’s past has included some resolution to find inner peace, contentment, and gratitude for the forthcoming year. My heart smiled so big this year as I felt nothing but those sentiments. Becoming a mom has brought that to me, and I vow to keep those feelings in my heart and mind while raising my family in the years to come.

With that said, I would like to introduce myself with a day in my life, Liz Joy. My son, who I will refer to as Mister, typically wakes around 7:30 or 8. He is my alarm, and if I’m up before him, I love to have a nice… big… strong… more robust… cup of coffee in peace while catching up on the million or so tasks. I always thought having a baby and staying home would mean life would continue as usual with more me time for the things I love to do, i.e., with my passion which is PURE JOY HOME, cooking, exercise, etc… but boy was I wrong! Being a mother to Mister is full-time, so while he sleeps, and only when he sleeps, is when I can pursue the above. As soon as Mister wakes up, I go into his room and see him smile so big. This is what makes my day.

I feed him breakfast which at 5 1/2 months consists of some oatmeal and a bottle. We play on his mat, where we interact, and have several failed attempts at tummy time, which he despises. I make it out the door on a good day by 8:45 to Stroller Strides. As hard as it is to get out the door early in the cold with Mister, I LOVE Stroller Strides. I usually go to the sessions in the Stamford Mall, which I know sounds pretty lame, but we really don’t care who sees us, and it’s normally just the older folks who partake in Mall Walking, more power to them. I’ve made a great group of friends, and my favorite part is getting my second cup of coffee with them at Starbucks afterward.

Mister is usually asleep at this point, so we head home. The rest of the afternoon consists of bottles, play time, and sporadic naps. At the same time, I try and cram in a blog post on Pure Joy Home and fulfill orders from my Etsy shop, Pure Joy Paperie, errands, and my A.D.D. self trying to accomplish a million things but never finishing any of them with Mister on my hip. If I’m lucky, I can cook a nice meal for my husband and me. I love to cook, so I use whatever tools I have at my disposal, like the jumper, jungle, and high chair, to grab Mister’s attention while I chop and stir away.

Mister goes to sleep around 7:00, and after 20 times of my husband and me going up and down the stairs to get him to sleep, it’s time for dinner and a glass of wine on a good day. While we eat, we chat, binge-watch the latest show, discovery (currently Breaking Bad), and I surf Instagram and Facebook, seeing what everyone is up to. Bed at 10, and we do it all over again.

Sorry if that was long, but hopefully, you got a pretty good snapshot of a day in my life. I can’t wait to connect with you this year and hope to hear from you!

When I’m not here, you can find me on Instagram at ‘purejoyhome,’ on Facebook at Pure Joy Home, and on my blog, Pure Joy Home!

Love & peace,

Liz

Here are some snapshots of my family over the holidays :)
