Six Must-Watch Streaming Shows

1

In the carefree days of my 20s, pre-kids, and pre-streaming services, I loved nothing more than zoning out to Grey’s Anatomy on my DVR, popping in my House DVDs, or hunkering down for a good old fashioned Law & Order: SVU marathon on USA. These days, TV selection seems limitless and you never have to rush through a bathroom break during commercials, thanks to streaming services. Although I rarely make it through one episode before falling fast asleep, I am still an absolute TV junkie.

Here are my six eclectic recommendations, in no particular order, that you can currently find on streaming services:

1. Ted Lasso {Apple TV+}

I know I said this list is in no particular order, but if you only watch one series from this list, make it Ted Lasso. Jason Sudeikis plays an American football coach Ted Lasso who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, with absolutely no experience to do so. If you aren’t a sports fan, don’t shy away from it because sports is only a small component to this series that combines comedy with the right amount of good feels. The bonus is that each episode is no longer than 35 minutes long, so it’s the perfect show to decompress too after a long day.

2. Sweet Magnolias {Netflix}

This series is Hallmark meets Netflix. Three lifelong friends support each other up as they juggle relationships, family and careers in a small, Southern town.

3. Yellowstone {Paramount Network}

This drama series has it all – romance, murder, suspense, comedy, and more. Watch this series and you’ll understand the mood behind the t-shirts that say “Beth Dutton State of Mind.”

4. Virgin River {Netflix}

This show is so cheesy and so predictable, and my husband says it’s just one notch above a Hallmark movie, but you have to watch it. It’s romance drama at it’s finest. You’ll love the characters and wish you could visit Virgin River and Jack’s bar. I think we can all use a little shameless feel-good romance show, right?

5. The Morning Show {Apple TV+}

This one stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carrell. Enough said.

6. Just Add Magic {Amazon}

This recommendation is one to watch with your kids. This series follows three friends that find a magic cookbook and spend their days baking and cooking up magic recipes. I love watching this show as much as my kids do, and we’ve watched most episodes more than once.

My list could go on and on, but 6 seems like a digestible amount to add to your list for now. If you’re looking for more, be sure to check out Christy’s quarantine binge list and Emma’s ten binge-worthy true crime documentaries.

Aarika Friend
Aarika lives in Trumbull with her husband, two daughters (2013 and 2015), and son (2020). Originally from Ulster County, NY, she fell in love with her husband at a UConn football game when she told him he had nice biceps and the rest is history. Outside of work and motherhood, she enjoys eating good food, sharing a drink with friends, summer days spent at Pinewood Lake or on vacation in Cape Cod, and mindlessly streaming too many shows with her husband. Her favorite time of day is early morning before her kids wake up with a hot cup of coffee and a good book.

  1. Friends is my favorite! I’ve seen every episode a thousand times, but they never get old. When Netflix announced that they’d make the whole series available on 1/1/15, which was also Parkers due date, I knew it was fate 🙂
